      Cannabis and Dream Recall

I noticed there is quite amount of people who smoke cannabis on this site that have trouble with recall.

I now am pretty sure that it is not weed alone that causes poor memory retention, but your own lack of focus and attention. The Tibetan Buddhists ingested weed everyday.

If you are more aware during waking life, you will automatically be more aware in dreams.

My recall has been getting considerably better because I've been living more lucidly. This means actually being more aware of the senses and outside world. Which is basically what Dream Yoga is.

I smoked 2 whole grams of cannabis with friends the other night and still was able to recall 3 dreams one morning after having stopped smoking for a month.

You'd be surprised how much T.V., video games, and computer screen will keep you distracted from your senses and being aware of the outside world.

I see it as, weed "heightens the senses" making you more aware, which in turn will make you more aware in dreams. They say cannabis clouds the mind which causes poor attention and focus. That's true if you are constantly lost in thought and not paying attention to the "here and now". Constant thoughts cloud the mind, so pay attention to your senses. That's living lucidly.

If you want better dream call, either stop smoking, or pay attention to your senses and stay aware. And don't smoke when your ready to go to sleep, unless your planning to WILD and can hold your awareness until you get into the dream.

By living lucidly and being aware I mean, when you open the fridge actually notice the touch of the handle, or when you walk, notice the touch of your feet hitting the ground, and try to pay more attention to detail. Even notice your hand on the mouse when your on the computer, I know this one is kinda tough. ADD is not a real disorder.

In NO way am I condoning the use of cannabis. I wrote this for the people who DO smoke who have decided not to quit.

In my experience it does hurt my dream recall. Living lucidly for me involves not smoking cannabis and trying to slow my brain down to a lower frequency. I am not against cannabis but I don't think it helps me think clearly. I feel that cannabis seems better than it is. I used to love it but to me, no high is better than eating healthy, staying hydrated, keeping my surroundings clean and getting to sleep early. Saying that, I do smoke cannabis on occasion and I think mushrooms are wonderful. I always thought mushrooms did what cannabis pretended to do. But even mushrooms are temporary and can't replace good healthy living.

I have been smoking everyday for a couple years now. It doesn't effect my recall in the slightest. I smoke an eight or more a day and my recall is fine. I believe that, like most things, it effects people differently. Some have real problems with recall when going to bed stoned, but others don't.

Some say Cannabis helps their dream recall... others say it hurts. For me, it personally hurts my dream recall. ESPECIALLY when I smoke right before bed. However if I smoke a few hours before bed it doesn't seem to effect me.... If I come down pretty much entirely before I fall asleep, I'm fine.

I noticed that when I smoke it regularly (many-a-times-a-day), that it GREATLY affects HI (Obviously) and whatnot, but after a while, my recall returns to normal. But, I haven't noticed a spike in recall after stopping said regular smoking like one might logically assume.......

.........and when I mean "logically assume", I mean simply assuming that everything that inhibits a sense or function acts like Kenpachi Zaraki's
reistsu-absorbing eye patch and when you take it off, said sense or function greatly increases........

.....god someone please appreciate that reference, otherwise, I'm gonna seem pretty foolish.

Opinions are divided on the subject but it is widely believed to be harmless by many people around the world. People often point to the fact that alcohol is legal and is much more harmful than cannabis. I think they're both harmful but so is sugar.

Very nicely said, Gameover...however, if I may add to that... Cannabis is in very many ways, a lot like cigarettes. They both have a key ingredient, the effect of which is usually the only reason for ingesting such a chemical. The difference being that our very very very flawed (due to capitalism) government has a specific ideal about some key ratio between Profit Margin : Resourcefulness : And Risk to the Public.

Our measurement system is old and slow, were it used ideally, the legal reality would surely prove and support a world in which the opposite, is specifically the reality.
You give me a point in the 7th dimension, and I'll show a Bigfoot with purple fur baking, with molten air, a cake of cocaine topped with perpetual, flaming icing in an ice kitchen that's part of a hovering ice condominium society that orbits a volcano made of pound cake that spews kittens made of rainbows, consisting of 87 distinct colors, and bananas...

Stay on topic please. This thread is about cannabis and it's effect on dream recall, not about it's ethics.

We were discussing wether or not cannabis is healthy. This all ties into the effect on dream recall and is very much on topic. It is helpful to explain why it is illegal to someone who can't understand how we can have an open conversation about something like this.
