      Too much recall

I (for the first time in a while) decided to remember as much as I could of my dreams last night, and write them down. The problem I have now is that I spent 1 hr writing all the crap down I remember.

Over the course of 3 distinct different dreams...yeah they merged at some point. But crap...
should I just focus on important points? But there didn't seem to be any important points.

This is sort of why I stopped with the dream journal in the first place.

I get that a bit. When I started, I was writing down the whole thing in a notebook, in detail, with illustrations- then typing it out. Great if you've loads of time, the first couple of entries in my DJ are in minuscule detail and really long! What I started to do is write/type just a list of bullet points and flesh it out when I have the time. That def. works for keeping the time down.
Try not to leave stuff out, if you have more detail saved on paper/computer, it might improve your memory.
Maybe try to just write exactly what happened and avoid all digressions! Hope this helps

      What the hell, man?

Some people would kill for this kind of recall, and here you're complaining?

Think of all the lucid dream starved kids in Africa.

Right all of it down, and enjoy every minute of it.
Haven't had a lucid dream in 3 years, and I'm looking to get back into it.

I write down as much as I can remember and sometimes will remember more over the course of the next day and will jot extra notes down. I also do illustrations if I can because I'm a visual learner and so my dreams usually have lots of details as if I was actually awake and not dreaming

they say to write down as much as you can, as in all of the minor details. But this is really for newbies, you'd probably be an exception if it really takes you an hour.

What a cool problem. If your having trouble with how long it takes you write everthing down, then just right enough so the dream is still cemented into your mind for the day, and maybe jot down other details if you want to later on.

Write down everything you remember. Failing that, write down a basic summary, like you would for a movie you watched. Where you were, who was with you, what you did, how you felt are the bare basics.

Uh... before anything else, do you have natural recall? If so, don't bother writting everything if you don't want to <.<

I've been doing a summary with linking to particular things in the dream to aid in recall. I dont really have to write them down completely now just key words coupled with particular thoughts / viz cues.

      Thanks for the ideas

I spend 4 to 6 hours a day writing my DJ if I write everything, so I feel ya. Just write notes on the main points every day if you can, then write all the details later if you have time.

You don't have "too much recall." You just don't have enough time.
