Too many dreams
I am a natural at recalling my dreams. However, I remember many dreams to the point where recording them gets to long and having to write down everyone gets too monotonouns. Do I have to write everyone down, Becuase I usually remember 4 or more dreams. I can still remeber them the next day if I just memorize them once I recall them but do I have to write them all down to take good affect?
:?

I often think of recording my dreams as a chore for a few reasons: Its a lot to write, I'd much rather roll over and go back to sleep when I wake up, and I always think that I'll be able to remember them anyway. I try to push through and write them all anyway though, because one time when I was having a lot of trouble recording a particularly long dream (lost the entire text twice when I was near the end), I gave up and just concluded that I'd remember it anyway even if I didn't write it down. A few hours later, however, the dream was lost to me and still is now. I really wish now that I had just taken the time to write it out because I'll never remember that dream again

well it depends....if you're working on recognizing dream signs...you should write down as much as possible to find out what occurs most often in your dreams. If not, you could just write down certain details of the dream that will help jog your memory if you ever look back on it and forget.
Also you could try using a recording device....I don't have experience with that so i couldn't tell you how good/bad it is. either way...nice recall and good luck ;)

wait? why is this in lucid experiences?

I'm in the same boat as you.
Usually just putting down the basic event structure is enough to recall the actual details indefinitely, but only if your recall truly is that good. Something basic like that should only take 10 minutes, max, for 5ish dreams. I can provide an example of what I'm talking about from my DJ if you want it.

I'm kind of the same way. I'm afraid that if i get up and start recording my dream that i'll have trouble falling back asleep when i'm done. Most of the time, i just record key points and then later i can feel in the detail fairly easily. I'm glad i recorded the dream i did this morning, because i discovered that storms and wind is a dream sign for me.

I usually try to record all of the details that I can remember from a dream. Not only is it really useful for identifying dream signs, I also find that it helps my dream recall. Sometimes it's fun to look back at dreams you had weeks or months ago too.

Im a natural at recalling too and just cant be bothered when i wake up, and when i do they scrawl across pages due to the ammount of details. After a while i just gave up, but i managed to LD without a regular dream journal - just write down you LDs when you have them if you cant be bothered normally.
But it is quite fun reading your previous dreams and thinking "what the hell?".

I wake up after a dream, and sometimes jot down simple notes. If I went to a cafe and met a magic wizzard, then went to the ocean and caught a fish, I would write this on my notes:
- cafe
- magic
- sea
- catch fish
In the morning I'd try and remember the dream based on these keywords (usually its easy and I don't need the notes). I enjoy writing my DJ. I get excited to see comments. I also like photoshopping images together now.
Although today it got tricky. I wrote down "subway" in the night. When I woke up I thought maybe I dreamed about catching a train but I simply couldn't remember. Then I realized I meant Subway as in the sandwiches.
-
I record my dreams just like loaf does. When i go to fill in the details, i usually only have to look at the first keyword maybe the second one; after that, i can fill in the rest of the dream like it just happened.
-
hmm... I don't ever recall waking up after a dream. I wake up in the morning remembering about 4-7 dreams. The only reason I keep a dream journal is because I think it's fun to read it in about 10 years. I've had a great recall all my life so that wouldn't be a reason to write things down for me. If you have a reason to write them down you should. Otherwise I think it's just a personal choice...
O, wait. It's always a personal choice.

Get a recorder
I've read that you can record your dreams instead of writing them(hope this helps):P

I enjoy writing in my dream journal too! Usually when I wake up, I can remember some key things, so I normally start my entry off (always on the computer, I find it difficult to write things down physically) with point forms of those scenes (much like Loaf's).
Then as I'm writing those scenes, I start remembering more details, and usually how things inter-connect with each other.
A new thing I'm trying is for the end product to read like a story. So, rather than just writing something like, "My instructor told us that our guest speaker would be here momentarily." It would read more like, "'The guest speaker will be here momentarily,' Steve said."
It's a work in progress, but it helps improve my recall, and probably makes my DJ more interesting too :)
Plus, I love looking back and reading the dreams I've forgotten. I wish I could find my old journals (those ones would be physical). I've been recording my dreams since I was about 13/14 years old.
