Simple, Universal Dream Sign that really helped me out

I have read a LOT of tutorials on lucid dreaming, and if it seemed any good at all, I'd read it many times through to make sure I wouldn't forget it. And when I read about DILDing, I came across a lot about dream signs. However, there is one thing that I never saw mentioned, and it's so simple I hardly feel it even deserves a thread of its own. But last night I kind of thought of this at random, and it broke my dry spell of both lucid dreaming and dream recall!

So what is this simple, universal, and (apparently) unthought-of dream sign?

      Drum-roll, please...

      Having your eyes open!

Please don't cuss me off or anything; I already told you it was darn simple

But yes indeed! I haven't seen this listed anywhere as a dream sign, but it worked for me so quickly, at the peak of a dreaming dry spell, I thought maybe it would help some other people who are struggling with LD's.

Employ the dream sign as you wish, but what I personally did was simply add in a line to my nightly reality-checking. I changed nothing during the day, but as soon I was in bed and doing my final reality checks, I closed my eyes and repeated to myself, over and over: "When I open my eyes, or realize that my eyes are open, I WILL reality check." Then I did it a couple times at random, not planning out or waiting for when I'd open my eyes, just doing it on impulse and then following through with "oh yeah, my eyes are open; I better reality check" and then pinching my nose and breathing in.

Anyway, this worked for me; I hope it works for all of you! Please post your results if you decide to try this out.

I honestly facepalmed at the simplicity of this xD

I agree with you. If you go to bed and remember, "My eyes are closed." Perhaps in a dream you can sense that you are dreaming by becoming aware that your eyes are open. But it DOES require memory of going to sleep that night which is the hard part. I mean, if everyone remembered going to sleep that night there would be no need to preform RC's.

Not a bad idea, I can see this being useful for a WBTB.

Yeah, I used it for WBTB and it worked great!

And honestly, not remembering you went to bed shouldn't be a problem with this, imo. I mean, you're trying to recognize that you're seeing, not sleeping, so the moment you realize "hey, my eyes are open!" either you'll remember to RC as planned, or you'll realize that you went to bed and thus go lucid without RC.

      It's so simple, it's genius.

I will have to give this a try.

      Not bad.

It is absolutely genius. I will make sure that I say to myself "Next time I see, I will be dreaming, and I will do a RC"

Wait wait, I'm confused, isn't this more of a MILD mantra rather than a RC? Since ti doesn't check anything itself, but tells you to.

I think i'll give this a shot. This could be useful in battling those tricky false awakenings too. When you open your eyes in a false awakening, you'll remember, "Hey, my eyes are open. I should do a reality check." and boom, you're lucid. Even though i should also use waking up as a dream sign too. I'm definitely going to incorporate this into my reality check list. Thanks LiveInTheDream!

Yeah, this isn't supposed to be an RC, this is just supposed to help you do that. So it kind of does fit more with MILD, I guess.

      Thanks for the compliments, everybody!

As a matter of fact, that is the way I managed my only LD.

I was falling asleep, in bed, with eyes closed and the next thing I know is I'm in my living room. Being able to see made me think "how odd, I was in my bed just a second ago... this must be a dream"
      BOOM Lucidity

Having my eyes open made me realize that something had changed from my previous disposition and thus forced the realization of dreaming upon me. But I guess that requires you to remember while dreaming that you just went to sleep.

This is a Dream. Do a Reality Check.

I like it, cause i'm always trying to go to pandora. I went in three different LDs last night. Any time I see pandora I'm lucid. As my DG is Neytiri..
