      Having trouble with a dreamsign.

So a lot of times in my dreams, I try to run and I end up feeling...restricted. Like something's holding me back and it makes it impossible to run without great great force, and I just can't do it, so I end up slothing around or taking small leaps around.

How can I use this to my advantage?
There's no feeling worse than that millisecond you're sure you are going to fall after leaning your chair back a little too far.

The best I can suggest is to try running or making similiar movements and see whether they're impeded in the real world; using it as an RC.
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

It's really nothing I can emulate though, It's as if i'm putting all my energy into it and running very, very slow.

I think you misread Demara. This is a lot simpler than you're making it out to be.

Try running/walking. If you can run/walk perfectly fine, you are awake. If you feel impeded, you are probably dreaming (though I'd do a follow-up check before jumping out a window).

This really is a good dream sign~

How would I be able to perform a reality check in the waking world, though? I can't think of a way to train myself to do so.

Just do it randomly throughout the day. If you feel something is suspicious then run/walk and if there are no restrictions then you are not dreaming.
