      Is this dream recall?

      So last night, i awoke at precisely 3:26 having fallen asleep at around 12:10. ( I also woke up in a very sudden manner, if that helps answer my question). As i woke up, i felt as if i had previously been daydreaming / thinking about abstract thoughts. (I could also somewhat remember what i had been thinking about as well). As i have not experienced dream recall in years, i dont know whether i had been awake, remembering what i was thinking about in the "twilight zone" or whether i was remembering a dream. Can anyone determine if i was recalling a dream or not from this info?

      Sounds like you were remembering deep sleep thoughts (which are abstract, hard to describe, without plot, but with a pervasive mix of emotions).

      So basically, you've got the right idea to recall dreams. You just happened to wake up during NREM, instead of after REM.

      You'll remember a REM dream eventually.
