      Unhappy Trouble Recalling

I've been trying to make myself recall for awhile with no success at all.
      Here are some attempts:

I tried naturally waking up, but I moved and forgot everything. I set an alarm for 5:30 (6 1/2 hours after going to bed), but I woke up and was finally aware I was awake at 5:09. I didn't remember anything. I tried to fall back asleep, but I woke up naturally and forgot or somebody else woke me up in my house. (I have a sister who sleeps above me and a brother adjacent to her. I'm in the basement.) Today, I am meditating, and I wrote on my hand, "When I wake up, I will NOT move. I will recall my dreams." I'm hoping this works. Any more tips?

Try an easy AutoSuggestion like "I will remember my dreams." and keep when you first lay down in bed, just keep repeating it until you fall asleep. Works for me. Hope it helps. =)

Keep a notepad with a pen under your pillow and write down your dreams before you are able to forget them. Everytime you wake up, write your dream down.

Thanks! But I also have trouble not moving, and then I forget everything when I move too much and forget or lay there. Any suggestions?

Are you attempting to WILD? You should be able to pen down at least the major details of your dreams before you forget them.

No, not yet. I will once I get better at recall, but if I move too much I usually forget what I'm even doing...

I've started building up my dream recall after a break of a couple of years. I really suck at remembering my dreams tbh. I too move as soon as I wake up. I can only share my experiences for you to make your own conclusions I guess.

Years ago, every night when I went to bed I told myself that in the morning, I WILL remember a dream, the whole autosuggestion thing you know. I also managed to learn to not move as soon as I woke up, I used to nip my nose every morning, first when I woke up and moved, then again if I did not remember even a tiny little fragment of a dream. Eventually I could remember quite a few dreams a night, up to around 5-7 a night. Once I could remember a few dreams every night I started exercise on how to make them more vivid and longer, and then I started to learn lucid dreaming techniques further.

If your recall is as bad as mine is/was back then I'd recommend forgetting the actual lucid dreaming for a while, because not being able to even remember the night is going to cause a huge amount of stress and you'll end up very frustrated like I did

It also helps to eat healthy and live healthy, an aspect I'm not so good at really (I drink, I smoke, I don't exercise etc etc) and to learn relaxation techniques, sit down for a while every day and just, listen to calm, relaxing music and clear your mind of everything. I recommend meditating too. Like others have said, keep a genuine interest in what happens during those hours you spend laying in bed, sort of like a curiosity in what your subconscious has to tell you.

Right now, when I have time, and I wake up and move before I realize I'm not supposed to do that, I do exactly what I used to, nip my nose and tell myself to remember the dreams. After that I "try again", I lay down on the bed, completely motionless. Don't move ANYTHING, not even my tongue or eyes and tell myself that I want to remember a dream, and as soon as there is even the smallest theme, thought, idea or figure that seems familiar (as it was from a dream you just had) I focus on that. Usually a bigger picture of the specific dream is brought to mind and I try to remember it as fully as I can, but as soon as it seems like there really just is no more that I can remember about it, I write it down. Usually there is one or two or more dreams that follow as soon as I write the first one down, it's like a domino effect really and I start writing them all down and keep remembering small details of the first one and everything is just so much clearer to me. This is exactly what happened again this morning, even though it was just small parts of two dreams I'm happy about it. Oh yes! As soon as you achieve a step forward, when you remember a dream or have a lucid or whatever it is you're trying to do, REWARD YOURSELF and be happy about it!

I probably forgot something I had to say, but I'm sure it was nothing you won't be able to find out on your own.

( ) Enhance my dream recall significantly
( ) Increase the number of dreams I remember each night
( ) Have lucid dreams once again
