      Using glasses for reality checks?

Can glasses be used for RCs? I'm short sighted. My idea is that I'll be able to look above the top rim of my glasses in a dream and if what I see is clear and in focus, I know I'm dreaming. Also if I can't see the top rim of the glasses I'd know I'm dreaming. Would this work?

It would be an ideal form of RC in real life because it's discreet.

That's a brilliant idea! You might even find that in a dream you're not wearing your glasses at all...

i wear glasses too! the thing is, the dream world is often very fuzzy and unclear, even if you pull that RC on a dream, it might not be enough for you to realize you are dreaming, but you can try that too, just dont just do that RC

I had a strange experience with this.

In one of my dreams I was sitting in school messing with my glasses on the desk.

It dawned on me that I shouldn't need glasses any more(LASIK), and it prompted me to put them on to see how they affected my vision. I was surprised that it didn't alter my vision at all, and I immediately became lucid.

So it was sort of a dream sign and a reality check. I'd kind of worry about false positives, cause like the guys above said, vision is strange in dreams.

Yup, definitely. I've got to remember to try this.

a personal goal of mine is to use reality-bending computer glasses in a lot of my LD's...to create a dream sign, of sorts. One of the reality checks I use is trying to turn on the glasses by double-tapping the rims. I was able to successfully use the glasses in my last lucid dream. So, I guess I'm sort of constructing a personal dream sign.

Also, thanks to the admins for creating the RSS feed. It's very nice.

I really like this idea. I've found that I'm never wearing glasses in my dreams. XD

It's real freedom, and there's not a word good enough to describe it, so I'll just call it dreamy for now."

I haven't had a chance to try this out yet because I haven't had an LD recently, but I've been thinking of a variation and wondering if it would work...

The idea is, in real life, when you do this RC and look above your glasses, you'd make a habit of looking up with your eyeballs as far as they can go. After a couple of seconds this starts to hurt a little. The thought is: if you do this in a dream, (because your sleeping eyes actually move when you move your dream eyes), could the slight degree of pain experienced help to wake you a little to encourage lucidity? So if you RC by chance in a dream, the pain is "back up" if the glasses check fails to make you lucid.

Also, could this be applied to text/watch checks? Whenever you do text/watch checks in real life you could get into the habit of doing it by keeping your head still and moving your eyeballs only - you'd look at the text, then make sure you move your eyes to the right enough so there's a slight degree of pain and then look back at the text.

My LDing record, if you want to hear about it, is about 4 WILDs, 1 DEILD, and the rest DILDs.

Awsome! I am so nearsighted it isn't even funny, I always wear my glasses. Sweet so this is my RC checklist:
-look at hands, check for written A for awake, try to poke through my hand
-feel face, feel for glasses and do nose breathing check
      -dream watch

"My body may be bound by gravity, but my imagination knows no limits." -Me
-start date: 3/31/10, current LD count: 131
Goals: [X] successfully stabalize a LD, explore dream world, and learn to fly
[ ] Discover the source of consciousness, find my spirit guide, experience absolute cosmic unity

Well I don't wear glasses but this does sound interesting. Sounds similar to another reality check I heard about closing one eye and looking at your nose to see if it's still there.

I've tried something similar, but it failed. x_x But if you can get it to work at least once, you should be good. Just don't rely on it. You should never rely on just one RC anyway, though.

      Hi Malinisia.

If I ever get another LD this will be one of the first things I'll try.

I've also noticed that there's some writing on this inside of my glasses that I could use for a text check. Assuming I'm wearing glasses in a dream; but if I'm not, then I'll know I'm dreaming anyway.

      Careful with this one-

As mentioned before, the dream world often seems fuzzy- as the real world does without glasses.
Also, you could dream that you had glasses on. However, the text check on glasses is a good idea- it's pretty discreet too (I'm always fiddling with my glasses...)

      Good luck with it,

You could check to see if you had your glasses on, and if the scene was clear but you didn't have your glasses on then I would think that would trigger that you're dreaming. Also if you wear glasses it can help because if you are lucid and you want to make the dream more vivid you could just put your glasses on and possibly it would make the dream more clear

Finally remembered to try this in an LD! Interesting results...not what I expected at all. I became aware of my glasses and dipped my head so I could look over the top. Everything was blurry. Then I lifted my head to look through the lenses and everything was blurry too! After that I forgot about it and my vision returned to normal. Not a great RC. Not for me, anyway.
