I thought Minky had to be part Siamese because of the way she acts. You're right, her fur is very thick and soft. But she is so big and not skinny like a Siamese, I wasn't sure. I don't know a lot about cat breeds. Somebody who had a Siamese that had points that look liked Fox (orange tabby) said Siamese can have different color points, and that his cat's mother looked a lot like Minky. She probably got abandoned because she screams in the morning until she gets tuna.

I should probably put this question in your special cat-question thread--but have you noticed that orange tabbies have a special outgoing friendly personality? It seems like orange cats, especially Tom cats and it seems like there's more orange toms, have similar personality qualities.

Jr Worley - are you running some sort of zoo at your house?? Why do you have so many dogs? It's gotta be expensive to feed that many animals!

Moonbeam - YES! Orange tabby cats usually have extremely friendly personalities. They are very outgoing and smart too. Interesting tidbit of info for ya - did you know that most orange tabbies are male? You'll occasionally find a female, but the majority are male. Also, ALL calicos and torties are female.

I thought there were more male than female orange tabbies; and most of the females I've known had some white on them as well. I know the genetic explanation for why all tri-colored cats are female, but why are orange tabbies usually male? I think the gray tabbies are just as likely to be female. (oh, I think a rare genetically abnormal-XXY-male cat can be a calico, and is very valuable.)

Yeah, I've only seen 2 or 3 all orange tabby cats (with no white) that were female (and 2 of the 3 were long-haired, not short-haired). I'm guessing the coat color is linked with the sex gene - just like with calicos and the female gene. I've never seen a male calico - they are EXTREMELY rare, and a genetic mutation. I'll probably never see one in my entire life.

Also - another tidbit - did you know that all-white cats with blue eyes are usually always deaf? Or if it's a all-white cat with one blue eye and one other color eye, they will be deaf in the ear on the side of the blue eye? The gene for deafness is linked with the gene for a white coat and blue eyes.

That reminds me of something I read; I think there are two ways cats can have blue eyes--the siamese-type genes, which are OK, and the white cat-blue eyes gene, which is linked to deafness. I didn't know they would be deaf on the side of their blue eye tho, that is weird. I love that avatar (of somebody whose name I can't think of now) that is a white cat with a blue and a yellow eye.

Here is a cat trivia for you: why do some cats have red eyes when you take their picture, and some have green eyes? (see difference between Minky and Skunky on the couch.)

The reflection is due to the tapetum lucidum, a reflective layer behind the retina of the eye whichs aids in night vision.

I've found that fair-eyes cats (blue eyes) usually appear with the red glare in photos, while dark-eyed cats (brown or yellow) usually appear with a green shade reflection.

I should have known that you would know. I just recently noticed that light cats have red eyes and dark cats have green eyes. I didn't know the name for it, but I knew it was pigment in the retina.

I wish I could see at night.

How many pets do you have?
Only two, but it'd be more if I had any say in it.

What kind?
Ehm, two cats. I don't really know what kind.

What are their names?
Milo, who we got right after he was born, and Merlin, who we adopted.

And what are some things that make your pet unique?
They're kind of a Dr. Jeckyll/Mr. Hyde kind of duo. Merlin's always running around the house, mutilating chairs, jumping on you while you sleep... Milo, however, just sits there. Eats, sleeps, occasionaly bites you. That's about it.

Do you have any funny pet stories?
Not really, other than when my family adopted Merlin. Oh god, HORROR. None of us would even open our bedroom doors out of fear of a raging mass of fur and claw tearing apart our face. Picture, say, a WWI rush into a trench. Take two soldiers, trying to stab each other's brains out. Change them both into cats, and make them both about 100 times as angry. Yeah, that was my house for about a week.

This one? Yeah, I saved this pic the moment I saw it, but I can't remember the name of the member either.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking... at first I thought guinea pig, but no... or an extremely large hamster...
From this angle, it doesn't look like his legs would reach the ground!

I've got a lot of bunnies back home, but no pets allowed up at the dorms.
Most of the bunnies are boring, but among the funner ones were Thundercloud, Oreo and Fiona. I named Thundercloud way back when I was 6 (he died a little over a year ago, unfortunately), and my sister named Fiona (because she gets really obsessive about movies and names EVERYTHING after movie characters). Oreo got his name from a girl in my fourth grade class who said he looked like an Oreo.
Thundercloud was cool because he came when you said his name or whistled, and was generally a really friendly rabbit.
Oreo's funny just because he's the only gay rabbit I've ever known. Flaming gay. He's pretty friendly, and doesn't mind being picked up, which is rare for rabbits.

Fiona's awesome because she's PURE EVIL. Nicknames for her included Furry Ball of Death, Death-Wad, Mini-Scourge and Doom Rodent. She's a mini-flop, so she's a tiny little thing, but she still beats up on all the other rabbits, who are easily twice her size. She's smart, too--we'd let most of the rabbits run free around the backyard, and we'd leave an empty, open cage with a water bottle and any food scraps for the rabbits.
Fiona would get sick of the other rabbits, chase them into the cage, then push the door closed and lay down in front of it to stop them from getting out. It was so hilarious to see her do it, too.

Aw, he's cute! Pits can be such wonderful, loving dogs. They get a bad rap because of the dog-fighting stuff, but it's all in the way they are raised and trained. When trained by a (normal) responsible owner, they are such awesome dogs!!

Tsen - awesome bunny stories - though I'm curious how you know Thundercloud is gay LOL.

Nah, Oreo's the gay one. It's pretty easy to tell...let him out with guy rabbits, and he gets...well, a little too happy. But let him out with girl rabbits, and he just ignores them. Which is actually kind of nice, because we could let him and all the girl bunnies run around at once without worrying about getting umpteen-million baby bunnies a few weeks later...

I have a dog, his name is winston, although i call him Winafred. He hates me... I can state for a fact that when we first got him he hated me, thus nothing i have done to him can be a valid reason to why he hates me. Anyway, yea if I go to pet him he'll growl, though he never bites. My mother says that it's his way of showing he likes me, but i think hes laughing at me in his little doggy heart. However, I drifted off course, he is 7 years old, and is a terrior cross ciowawa (sorry if the spelling isn't correct).

I don't remember if I replied to this or not, so I thought I would do it anyway. I have a dark eyed white ferret named Rogue. She is pretty cool, especially in the morning when she plays a lot. No need to buy her any toys either because she it just as happy to play with a plastic bag since it makes noise and stuff. I used to have another one named Simon and they would play with each other and chase each other around the house. Oh and they really like tubes that they can climb in so I got them some from the Home Depot.

A gay bunny? God, the gay jokes that could go here are long and numerous but all politically incorrect.
