      Tell me about your pet(s)

It's been my experience after working in the veterinary field, that people LOVE to talk about their pets! Dogs, cats, birds, fish, reptiles, you name it. Animals give people a reason to get up in the morning, and someone to greet them when they get home. I have a lot of elderly clients who only keep going in life because they have their pet to care for (and many of them will take their pet to the vet before they will go to the doctor themselves!).

So what I want to know is:

How many pets do you have?

What kind? What are their names?

And what are some things that make your pet unique?

Do you have any funny pet stories?

I have two dogs. One is named Leonard, the other Karl. One thing that makes Leonard special is that he can whisper. It's a trick that is kind of like the 'speak' command, but it is much softer, like a low growl. Karl is unique because he looks really mean, although he isn't really.

      I have a cat, called Herman ^__^

He's a bit small and a total wussie. Just about everything scares him... he has his weet moments too however... like when you feed him he is not so un-social all of a sudden

We used to have a different cat, but that one wondered how the bottom of a car-tire looked like.

I'm sorry to hear about your car-tire cat. Some cats just demand to go outside and won't be happy otherwise, but I've got my cats brainwashed - they are terrified of the outsdoors! I can leave the door wide open when I'm bringing in groceries or whatever, and they'll just sit there and look outside, but they won't go near the threshold.

Where did Herman come from? Was he a stray? He may be skittish because of his past (I know it sounds like kitty-psychiatry). Sometimes, they just need longer to be able to trust you. But it sounds like he comes out of his shell when you feed him! I would try bribing him with food or treats - play with him or teach him a few basic commands using food. Cats aren't as eager to please as dogs, but you can still teach tricks if you find somehow to relate to the cat (in your case - food)!

My friend and I have a snapping turtle. Its only a few inches long; head to toe he's about 5 to 6in. He eats 20 small goldfish a week. His aquarium includes many living plants and logs to camouflage him while he hunts. I also buy ghost shrimp; they help clean up the algae but also provide a good snack for the turtle if he can catch one. We have named him Jack Bowser. Jack as in Jack Bauer from 24; the turtle pulls some sick moves and is totally bad ass like Jack. And Bowser from Mario Party, which used to play a lot. I'll try to get some pics.

I'd love to see some pics - snapping turtles are very cool looking. And I like the history behind his name!

Bruno is so cute! Goldens are the ultimate gentle, family dog. They have wonderful personalities. Okay, I'll try to pronounce the rabbits name phoenetically... "Snow-t-gee"?? Well, it was worth a try!

      Here are my two cats:

Cloud is a platinum point Tonkinese and is 3 years old. He plays fetch, and loves to follow us around and be carried around.

Titus is a regular tabby cat who I rescued from the clinic I work at. He's also 3 years old and he constantly talks all day long. In this picture, he's laying on the quilt my grandma made for me.

I have two cats. One is a big fat Russian Blue named Dante and the other is a Tabby named Nelly (who looks just like your Tabby, but bigger). My tabby, Nelly, does the same as yours. He talks all day long. He wakes me up in the middle of the night and will respond when I talk to him. He is really cute, but it gets irritating when I try to sleep sometimes.) He doesn't really meow though, it is this weird....I don't even know how to describe it.

yay... and when you talk, he listens (espeacially when you say: "rondje lopen?" (something like: "wanna go for a walk?") and sometimes he answers... or i think he does
also: when i come home from school, he comes to me to get my keys... (of course... he only does that for his dogcookie )

      but they're not always nice:
he can sometimes be in this frenzy, BUT when he bites and you say something like "ouch" (errr(!)) or: goddamnit!
he's like "omg omg omg, sorry sorry sorry" *licklicklick*

and you pronounce it more like: sn- errrr... i have no idea... - t- i have no idea
      right... english sucks... dutch rullezzzz

We got him off these people that just had like 8 brand new pussycats He kind of grew up in their huge backyard. However we live rather close to alot of fast moving headlights (cars) so we rather not let him go outside... So maybe he got a little paranoid that way or something..

lol teach him stuff... mhhh don't know what to teach him. 'being more social in general' is kind of a hard trick to teach isn't it? ^__^

Damn, this topic has some nice pussies in to 8)

Well, you could teach him to come when he's called when he hears his name. Call his name, and if he starts walking toward you, reward him with a treat. Then praise him and pet him (if he likes it). Keep doing this with positive reinforcement a few times a day. Doing this sort of exercise will not only teach him to learn his name, but he'll become more social from the interaction as well.

I have a dog named Danny. I didn't name him after myself he was already called that when I got him. He is a small west highland white terrier. He is very playful and loves attention, he is also a very tolerant dog, my mam is a child minder so he sometimes has to entertain the kids. Poor thing. He never bites, even when being playful he wont bite. He hates the sound that the blind in the bathroom makes, he has learned to bark whenever he hears someone say they are going in the shower.

I used to have a rabbit, but it died of age sometime last year . He was called Jack, he was playfull, he would play fetch and actually throw things back by picking it up in his mouth then using his front legs to kick it back. A cat tried to pounce on him once, but he noticed it and kicked it with his back legs, it cleared the fence .

I've had quite a few pets over the years, birds, guinnee pigs, hamsters, rats, 2 more dogs, a chipmunk and a garden pond full of tiny little fish.
Recent Dream journal note : I was swallowed by some kind of sea-snake thing

Well, I guess the little Westie called Danny was meant to live at your house (since you both have the same name!). It's nice that he's good with kids - a daycare is the ultimate way of teaching dogs or cats to be good around children (except some kids can be too rough for them).

And I love that the rabbit kicked the cat's ass! LOL

I have a big ginger mog called Arnie - as in "I'll be back"... Although hes the softest daftest thing and not a Terminator at all. Im off sick recovering from an op at the mo and hes always by my side. I wish I knew more about computers then I could put a picture up like you guys do. I was looking at the pic of Titus the cat and hes so gorgeous. I work part time in a cattery and we get all sorts of beautiful cats. We get Maine Coons, but theyre a bit aloof. Out of all the breeds, chocolate burmese are the soppiest. They climb on your shoulder and purr in your ear.

I'm glad Arnie is there to help you recooperate - animals are great healers!

Titus appreciates the compliment - he's a big camera ham and loves posing for photos.

My other cat, Cloud, is a Tonkinese, which is a Siamese/Burmese cross. So he has a lot of those Burmese traits you mentioned. He's not happy unless we're carrying him around, and if he's on the floor and you're standing up, he will leap straight up into the air for you to catch him and hold him! What a character!
