Oh yea, I dont know how I forgot to post this earlier. I had a dream a week or two ago with someone named shiva sivason in my dream. I found this very interesting. Actually, just went back and read the entry. Not much detail but it said I was shiva sivason.

How odd is that! Not a common name I am sure.

Hey Sivason, you have no idea how much I have looked forward to a dream yoga class!
My name is Jeremy, i am a 17 year old male - I have been trying to learn from the named book in your original post for about 5 months now. At one stage, I was getting regular (2/week) lucid dreams per week but since then, it has been less frequent since I got distracted with "more demanding" things. i.e. school exams.
What I (attempted) to practice was to try and be 'aware' of my thoughts and feelings, recognize those thoughts and feels and then make an action, rather than be controlled by those initial thoughts and emotions. Then at initial sleep and whenever I go to sleep, I would try and retain awareness throughout the stages of sleep by.. going to sleep "aware". This would mostly be either meditating myself into inducing sleep or repeating a mantra. Also, my mindset would be "this is a dream" throughout daily life.
I am particularly interested in what kind of awareness to keep and if possible, the different variations of awareness that can consistently and frequently lead to lucidity.
Many thanks for opening this class!
      fOrceez

Edit: I know this partly falls under the sleep yoga section, but I would also be interested in how to maintain awareness in the transition from initial sleep throughout to the various stages of sleep.

Nice. You are well prepared. I have not had any time to spend with the book yet, but that all sounds a lot like the stuff I was taught. My teacher (the first real Human teacher) was no longer a Buddhist, he was trained as a Kundalini Master and had converted to Shintoism. He trained me in Kundalini for about five years, and "Dream Work" was part of that training. Most of my knowledge has come from other more original sources. I am curious to see how the Buddhist stuff compares, I imagine my Kundalini master may have first learned it when he was a Buddhist.
That part about "This is a Dream" is very powerful and gets into extreamly deep space; it is tied in with E=MC2 and all the newer physic theories. If any students show enough intrest I will eventually teach some good stuff on this in a Advanced Topic class.
      Thanks for being enthusiastic!

Opalwolf (paul), It is never to late! Wlecome.
Hi She (Anya) I am glad you are interested. Your in luck! Mantras will be one of the very first topics covered.

Can I still join? I don't know if i can be very diligent though because I got some stuff going on at work but I'll do my best.

Also, I've been quite interested in dream yoga since I found out about it. I'm also planning on catching one of the Dalai Lama's lectures in north India sometime soon!

Thank you, sivason, for offering a course which allows the individuals to follow their own paths but with a goal in sight. The goal being self knowledge and the ability to express that knowledge.

I'm looking forward to being a student and also to breaking away from the constraints of my mind. Discipline and knowledge should do well in that plan.

      Very interested in this.
I'm 20 and I've been interested in Lucid Dreaming since... 06-24-2007 apparently, since I joined this site the very same day I learnt about LDing (if I recall correctly at least). I haven't been active here as you can see, though I did have success in Lucid Dreaming, reached a point where I was LDing at least 4 times a week, which was amazing, and also remembered from 5 to 8 dreams a night. But at some point it all stopped, and for self stupidity or something I never regained that, I guess I just didn't try too hard either, and I regret that, I still LD occasionally but it's really rare, but hey, now I'm back and going to keep practicing hard as I used to back then, even harder actually!
While there's several things that motivated me to start practicing again, one of them is that I recently became a practitioner of Buddhist philosophies, which among other things means that I started doing meditation which after a few days made me want to combine that practice with lucid dreaming, to get back into it, while searching if lucid dreaming was ever something discussed by Buddhists I found out about Dream Yoga, so I searched about that for a bit, and decided to see if there ever was some discussion thread about Dream Yoga over here, and I find that there's currently a course about it going on! How amazing is that?
I also just got the book you mention, just started reading it.
And will start with the lessons right away!

Yo! Names Terrin from NY 25. I've read some things about dream yoga and the tibetan monks and I'm really intrigued. If there is anything that will help me to lucid dream daily I have the feeling this is it. If I am not mistaken the dream yogis act as if their waking life is a dream as well as their sleeping life? I think that is an awesome idea and technique but I just can't see how to put it into practice lol I don't really believe in synchronicity but I'm definitely open minded and I wouldn't be surprised if I were "lead" here. I've been listening to anythony de'mello and the basis of his teachings is AWARENESS. Which is basically what the yogis practiced correct? Also I see that someone's name here is "Herman Hesse" (Again with the synchronicity or coincidence?) I've recently had the pleasure of reading siddhartha by herman hesse and it is a beautiful book! Yeah I'm so looking forward to this class! Thank you.

A truely good book, everyone should read it. Awareness is such a key part of it that it can not be overlooked. We who are far enough into Dream Yoga do not just act as if waking life is a dream. We actually 'know' that it is. It is becoming lucid in waking life. Any debate on if this could be a dream, or if it is fair for me to claim to 'know it' will have to wait for a select topic lesson. But, for now, enjoy Basic skills lesson 1. It is all about awareness.

Oh wow! You're about the 15-16th person I've come across that has mentioned that Siddartha book in just the past year. I got it on my iPad a year ago and have yet to really get into it.

I really need to read it though...

Awareness is really the base state of mind in most spiritual teachings I've noticed. Deepak Chopra's recent book is even about Contracted and Open states of Awareness.

The word Awareness seems to be constantly popping up for me recently.

It is fine if you join! The class is set up to run for a long time, as you can not rush this type of learning. Just start on Basic Skills: Lesson 1

Until otherwise noted, the class will be open for new students.

Looks like I've missed alot but I'd love to join your course Sivason!

My name is George, I'm 16 years old and have lived in Lincoln (UK) all my life. I'd love to have more LD's in the little time I have and I did try some meditation some time back and it really helped! Unfortunately time for me is a little stretched, as you probably guess from my username I am a radio DJ to my city. It takes up alot of my time but since the summer holidays are about to start catching up should be no problem If there's a list of books anywhere that I should read then please say, I really want to get in to this

      Thanks

There are no books I am asking anyone to read. I am reviewing 1 book. Just look at the sticky thread for the info. I am just reviewing it because about a dozen members have read it. So that is up to you. Just start at lesson 1 and create a workbook as soon as you have anything to post.

I am a 16 year old from Saint Augustine, Florida. I am a night owl. When school's out (I've recently graduated) I tend to read because night is the time when I feel a desire to learn and to do things. I do a lot of reading on metaphysical topics. I don't know what I consider myself. I used to consider myself atheist, then agnostic, then agnostic with Buddhist tendencies. I experimented with Wicca for a while but it seemed really contrived. I don't believe much in spells or anything that would come across as magic (talking to the dead, telepathy, sharing dreams) though I consider myself an open-minded skeptic. I do believe in the universe being made up of sacred energies, but only to a degree.

I have used meditation for a while as a tool to calm down or to help me sleep, but have never taken it further than that.

EDIT: As far as my personal life: I have just graduated high school. I have a girlfriend named Emily. Music is my passion, in particular bass guitar. I also play classical guitar and a little electric. Right now I am in a band called The Magistrate that sounds something like Avenged Sevenfold or Black Veil Brides. We plan to record a full length album this summer (from our own funds) and release it in physical form and on the internet before shopping it around to different agencies. I read a lot and play video games when I'm bored. My name is Dakota.

      Hi Sivason,

I would like to join your class if it is not too late. I am a retired software engineer. I have done some hatha yoga most of my life and have had occasional lucid dreams. I'm interested in LDing as a spiritual discipline and as a way to explore the nature of reality. Like most people, I find lucid dreaming fascinating.

I have read a bit about dream yoga and have always wanted to study it. Looking forward to the class.

It is not to late at all! The class is a go at your own pace thing. The nature of the material will take most students months to explore and incorperate. Just start on lesson 1 and enjoy!

I also found this a bit late, but I would like to give it go. I'll start with lesson 1, so I'll just be behind for a while.
I have attempted versions 1 and 2 several times in the past already. Writing a report on my experience might be a little tricky, though.
I actually own The Tibetan Yogas of Dream and Sleep and I thought it had lots of interesting and useful ideas.

      A little more about me:
I am 30 years old, living in Rhode Island, USA, but I grew up much further south. I have been practicing lucid dreaming for the past 3 years, while keeping a fairly regular dream journal. I have tried some meditation practices, but unfortunately, I never seem to stay dedicated to it. Although my level of focus on lucid dreaming varies, it has become an important part of my life, and I hope/plan to continue practicing, learning, and improving for the rest of my life.
One of my main interests in lucid dreaming is being able to meet recurring dream figures with minds of their own. I often find myself completely alone in my lucid dreams.

Hello, it appears I'm not the only late starter here!

I'm Tara, turning fifteen in July, and am from British Columbia, in Canada. I've been interested in Lucid Dreaming for a couple years now, but fell from that for several months, and am coming back to it just now. Only having two LDs in the past, I probably won't actually start attempting to do this until I'm able to have more Lucid Dreams, but it never hurts to start researching it!

The class will stay open for months. However, if you practice the basic skills they do not require that you are able to get lucid. They may help you get lucid and have better control.
