I went to bed around 2:00 after tossing and turning for a few hours. I set my alarm for 8:30 which gave me 7 1/2 hours of sleep. When I woke up I went to the bathroom and returned rite back to bed to attempt a WILD. I laid down and found a comfortable position where I wouldn't move again for the rest of the time. My body became heavy quickly and vibrations started to come on. I had trouble keeping my thoughts down so the vibrations would come and go a few times until a slightly heavier vibration came on. After about a minute of this feeling, it just slowly went away until I felt none of it anymore. I got up because nothing else was happening even tho I probably should have given it some more time. It was 8:55 when I finished so the whole thing was about 25 minutes. Also I noticed that when I'm relaxing and attempting to WILD, I have these micro movements in my legs and arms. I don't know why I do it but it seems to happen every time and it's really hard not to. This is the pretty much the same the that happens every time I try and WILD but it was still a good experience. :)
No, hypnic jerks often happen to people regardless of what part of sleeping they're at. Tons of people have hypnic jerks, I'd say almost everyone experienced them, and a very good amount of them aren't having any HH when they do. Sorta like SP can come with HH, or be alone, or HH can come without SP. I remember having hypnic jerks before I ever learned about lucid dreaming, and never experienced (or was conscious of) HI.
Do you know how to make them calm down? I feel like it messes with entering SP.
There really isn't a way to prevent hypnic jerks from happening, since they're unconscious. The best thing you can do is relax, and when they happen ignore them.
It's really awesome that you got some vibrations! That means that you hit SP. If I were you, I'd definitely have given it more time. It sounds like you were kind of cycling in and out of the relaxation state, which is why the SP would come and go. When this happens, just relax and allow yourself to kinda sink in to the vibrations. A dream should appear on its own, and if not you can begin to visualize the dream and force your way through (I'll talk about how to do that in the last lecture).
Lastly, always remember to RC after your get up from a WILD attempt, especially if you were so very close like in this one! You may have been dreaming when you got up. ;)
Thanks Ill try what you said out, and yeah I make sure I always reality check when I get up because Iv'e had that happen to me once and was really pissed when I realized lol.

No WILD attempt because I had class in the morning but I did manage to remember 2 dreams. The first one I was inside of a pizza place. I was watching person after person go up to this vending machine and try to get something but it would never dispense anything. After everyone went up I went and it dropped out all of the items the people didn't get. I then handed out all the things the people didn't get until the dream ended. The next dream I was inside of a school (not one that I know). People were crowded around outside of the library so I went to go check it out. When I went over to the doors a lady came out saying there has been an accident and someone is hurt. She wanted to know if anyone can give her money so she can get the guy anything if he wanted. No one gave her money and she went back inside. I remembered that I had 20 dollars in my pocket so I walked inside the library to give it to her. She got mad that I came in and told me to get out after she took the money from me. The dream ended shortly after that.
It's always tough to attempt WILD if you have work or school in the morning. At least we have the weekends!
7/28/10 - LUCID
Had my second lucid dream last night thanks to the DILD lesson! I tired some of the MILD techniques that you went over and I wrote down "I will have a lucid dream" for about 15 minutes on paper, then repeated it to my self until I fell asleep. I woke up around 6 a.m and went rite back to bed. I started to have a dream where everything was normal but for some reason everyone thought we were underwater. I thought it was weird that we could breath underwater and I was asking my sister about it. I was then in one of my neighbors drive way doing some sort of tests, one of them trying to see if I placed a fan on the floor and stepped over it, would I float up. I went up to my room after and I just realized I was dreaming I didn't do a reality check or anything. I was semi lucid at this point and walked down the stares where my deceased grandma was at the end of it looking up and smiling. I hugged her and moved on but I know for a fact if I was more lucid I would have stayed. I walked outside to an area that wasn't familiar with me which made me even more lucid. I looked around looking at the colors and how real everything looked. I also remembered you said dreamers say it just feels "dreamy" so I just felt that for a minute looking around. The yard was big so I ran and jumped in an attempt to fly but got nowhere. After a minute or two of just walking around I started to loose lucidity but I was still semi lucid. I think I had stereo headphones that were giving me sound of just the normal things around me. I remember asking someone if I would here better without them then I woke up.
Not the most exciting dream but still lucid! Tonight I will do a WBTB WILD attempt along with this same MILD technique and see how that goes.
Woohoo! Congrats!! :D
Last night I attempted to WILD but no success. :( I did also try to MILD and I had a false awakening which annoyed me because I didn't catch it. I have noticed tho that even when I don't have an LD most of my dreams are having something odd in it that Iv'e questioned but just not becoming lucid tho.
I agree, you are on the right track if that's the case--it means you're becoming more aware and discerning of your surroundings. The next step is to get into the habit of truly questioning reality when you feel anything is "off." Remember to be fully ready to accept that it could be a dream, so when you RC you don't dismiss the idea that you really are dreaming too quickly. :)

Went to bed around 1 a.m and woke up around 6 a.m to try and MILD. No success but I did have a few dreams where LDing was a topic.
woot, that's a start! :)
No recall the past 2 nights most likely because I have been having class early in the morning. Tomorrow is the last class tho so I will be attempting to WILD and MILD every night from here on. I have been practicing mindfulness everyday tho and just becoming aware of everything around me, which I will continue to do.
It is pretty hard to WILD if you know you have to get up very early. (And not very practical, either.) Hopefully you'll get some time to try again before the end of the week. :P
