Before Bed Routine:
I cut out of the MILD class about 5 or 10 minutes before it ends in order to attend a comedy writer’s meeting. When I get back I have dinner with my girlfriend and we watch an episode of the Sopranos followed by a Rifftrax movie (Cloverfield, ew). She keeps falling asleep so we decide to go to bed around 12:45. I put her to bed and since I was just watching television I hop online to check out the chat log, so that my eyes get a little action before passing out. I’m in bed by 1 am, and I stay up until 1:30 in bed as I read my bedside lucid dreaming material. I go over the MILD technique in my head several times and affirm that I’m going to have a Lucid Dream, and that I will remember it.
Though I am attempting the MILD method, I can’t help but continue my typical attempts at a WILD as I fall asleep (it’s become so routine, how I most often become lucid… and my rationale was that I can try and become lucid through both. If I fail at the WILD then I still have the MILD as a “failsafe” of sorts. So really, I thought I was doing a good thing in trying both methods: a double effort.
(I will ask Percy whether or not I should drop the WILD attempts completely during this coursework)
I sink deeper into the bed as I near sleep. I feel comfortable light. I try to maintain a positive attitude in my eagerness to Lucid. (Though I’ve LDed NUMEROUS times… each time almost feels like the first time I’m waking up)… At this point I can feel a shift in awareness. I am still laying in bed, but there is a lightness that also makes me feel as if I am hovering just above my body in bed. I am having a dual awareness… an awareness of my real body and an awareness of my dream/astral body. I try and shift my awareness completely to my floating dream self. I concentrate, instead of trying to ignore the hypnagogic imagery I try to use it to my advantage and imagine myself driving a car down the freeway. I try to put as many of my senses into this visualization as possible:
The driving scene is perfect and worked for me before because it keeps the mind active enough and uses imagery, audible, and tactile sensations… the makings of a good LD. I hear the radio playing music and feel the steering wheel under my hands. I remain as focused on the driving and on nothing else, and for just a moment I am completely there. I have one awareness and that it’s driving through a dream. That is the last thing I remember before falling completely asleep. I fall asleep while barely lucid.
Next thing I know… it is 6:20something in the morning. My cat stands over my pillow and paws at my nose so that I let her under the warmth of the covers. She snuggles up against my chest and in the crook of my armpit as I sleep on my right side (I enter LDs easier laying on my right side than left…) I do a reality check and lay with the intention of combining MILD with WBTB (though I only awoke for a few minutes)
I wake up again for two consecutive hours: around 7:30 and almost 9:00… I perform reality checks, affirm the MILD method and go back to sleep.
I am standing in my room. I look at my hands. They glow as I instantly become lucid. Before I can decide what to do while lucid, (THIS is the biggest problem I have when LDing… focus and intention. Once I can do ANYTHING I can’t make up my mind what to do, which often wakes me up.) It’s almost as if subconsciously I know this, because my mind doesn’t give me a moment to decide what to do. I immediately punch my fist into the air and blast of at high speed, flying through the roof up into the sky. I increase my velocity the further away from the ground I fly. It’s harder to tell how fast I am going without anything passing by to gauge against. The last thing I remember is reaching the end of the atmosphere before busting through into space.
You can WILD :) No problem. I will tell you what to add to your WILD in other to take more benefits out of your WILD :)
Good job on doing some stuff after all that TV. My wife falls asleep a lot of times too at night while watching TV :P Nice job on turning lucid :)

LOG for the night of Jan 20. aka NIGHT 2
I slip considerably compared to the night before... but on purpose. I believe that I won't be able to accomplish much because I won't get a "full" night's sleep.. I had to be up at 5am to be ready for work, and I was in bed by Midnight. So knowing that I'd only have five hours of sleep... I DIDN'T adhere strictly to my MILD or WILD process as I lay in bed, and I didn't have any recall whatsoever (Either from the lack of sleep, or the lack of positive mnemonic induction..) I slept like complete shit, and got perhaps 3 solid hours of sleep total.
That being said: LAST NIGHT (Jan 21) aka NIGHT 3 was a little more productive. I believe it in part had to deal with the awful sleep from the night before. I went to a birthday house party... and had a pretty awful time. Turns out I pretty much went to smoke everybody else's weed and got super baked. I got over the part far sooner than it ended, and left with my girlfriend around Midnight. We stayed up and watched American Dad for 45 mins or so, but I kept passing out on the couch. We went to bed, and I brought my laptop with me... hoping the bright light and late-night internet browsing would stimulate my eyes. I could only do this for about twenty minutes before I passed out.
I focused "less" on the technique (as in I didn't spend a considerable amount of time "fretting" over it and just mulled it over a few times in my head before letting it pass.) and fell into sleep a lot faster than Night 1 because I wasn't attempting to WILD.
I didn't LUCID this morning, but I had the opportunity to if I hadn't missed a couple key dream signs, the biggest of which was that my facial hair was cut entirely different. That being said I recalled the most recent dream of the night which I shall post in my DJ and link with this thread.

Sometimes the most evident DS are skipped... do not worry about it. Waking up at 5am does not make one motivated to even pull the DJ ;)
Night #4 - Jan 22
After a couple weeks of no contact with my talented dreamer friend across the street, I met up with him and caught up. We had a very invigorating four hour discussion and we swapped some different tips and techniques. We relayed the dreams we believed to have shared, though in each of them the other wasn't lucid and remembered it. However, our dream selves were very aware that they were dreaming, whether or not we remembered it in the morning (if that makes sense... he's had lucid dreams where we've met up and I was lucid with him, but didn't remember him... and I've had dreams of the same... so we decided to try harder to work together. Our lucid intent is what I use to combine with the MILD technique.
Our Goals: To meet in a specific close proximity. Since we live across the street from each other we designate the middle of the street between our homes as our meeting spot, right under a lamp post.
From there we are to change into our favorite battle forms. Then we are to travel to the moon together, and ultimately break IN to the moon and see if anything lies within its hollow core.
Now. I know this might sound like a heavy meal, so to say, but I'm confident in my dreaming and coupled with the MILD technique I felt extremely confident that this could be accomplished.Coupled with the support of a strong dreamer made these goals feel attainable.
I passed out laying in bed ten minutes into the technique, around 11:45 I didn't remember a single thing until I had to pee at 4 in the morning. I was sweaty and disgustingly smelly. Cold sweat. I rearranged my blankets and pillow. I lie on my right side and confidently affirm that I am going to meet him and go to the moon. The next thing I know it is 6:40am and I know that I only have 40 minutes before I have to be up for work. But I'm not worried. I've done a lot more with less sleep time. I'm still positive I will meet him.
All of a sudden it is 7:20 and my alarm is blaring, jarring me from the depths of sleep. I failed to remember anything. I haven't talked to my friend since.
Night #5 Jan 23.
After the failure from the night before, I decide to resort to a different tactic that's worked for me in the past.... which is to stay up as late as I can to get my body as tired as possible. I tend to WILD a lot easier if I stay up for most of the night and go to bed after 2:30am. I'm not sure but it might have something to do with REM rebound. I am up until nearly 4am browsing the internet and going over dreaming materials. I am in bed by 3:45 and affirm the MILD technique and perform a couple reality checks. I pass out quickly and slip immediately into deep sleep. Almost exactly 5 hours later, at 8:40 I reawaken... purged of my delta sleep. I perform the plugged nose reality check and let my cat under the covers and pass out almost instantly.
I'm woken again just a few minutes later because my other cat was walking over the covers, didn't realize the other was underneath and stepper on her. Their ensuing scuffle is what woke me. I readjust my pillow and affirm that I will Lucid Dream, and that I will remember it.

NIGHT #6 - Jan 24
So far I've been able to read consistently before I fall asleep and after I watch television. It's been nice to have an extra little wind-down period to get my mind on the right track for the MILD technique. I have been slipping in my daily affirmations and reality checks, though today I watched a few solidly helpful LD videos I found through browsing. What was great about these videos is that they had text on the screen and had an accompanying voice, so that I wasn't just being receptive but active. I fall asleep near Midnight, exhausted from staying up so long the night before (nearly 4) I fall asleep quick without any sensations or emotions related to anything.
I wake up to take a pee at 6:25ish and slump back into bed. I perform a few RCs and lay on my right side. Time to do some inducing. I wasn't too worried about inducing and trying a little WILDing in there...but I WAS a little intimidated by the exact method I'm required to do for the task: A Concert. Now... I've been to concerts and enjoyed them, but that particular scene was difficult for me to envision only because it doesn't engage all of my sense the way my typical "driving a car" method does. But that could just be due to hitting a wall in thinking of ways to stimulate my other senses. I thought of music, but it wasn't concrete enough, and all I could really think of was sitting in a crowd and getting bumped around. Because the scene to set is passive and receptive in nature (just sitting/standing and watching a show) I think it in turn recreated the same passive and receptive response in me. Another night. Another fail.
No dreams recalled.
Do not get pissed! It is not another failure, its better chances for next night!
Try to have a more stable sleep schedule. With such fluctuations of time, you make things harder.
How is your visualization and chest technique doing?
Last two nights have provided no yield. Been going to bed late and waking up early. Haven't had much time for anything. Absolutely no dream recall
How about waking incubation?
I've been having a hard time keeping it up. I'll start out strong earlier in the day. I have a few tactics like doing a RC every time I open a door or flip a switch... But I end up getting caught in the daily stresses of the worklife and end up forgetting to RC each and every time.
I haven't been losing too much confidence, though, because I just know it's work related, and I'll have the next few days off to recuperate and get a better night's sleep.
