      Jessie's Workbook-Dream Control

I haven't been keeping a dream journal because frankly either I remember it and I remember it for months or I can feel it but there is no way to put it in to words. I've had two strong dreams recently and I'll write about those here.

The first was Sunday night (into Monday morning). I had a dream that I was going to college (I'm a freshman now) and I went to a big party at the park near my house (a recurring place in my dreams). This party was being held for the seniors graduating (which doesn't make sense because I was supposed to leave to start college the next day). Then I realized the party had lasted all night. I was still at the park. Then I got a job watching the jungle gym at the park (there is no one watching it usually) even though I was supposed to leave. Then I went home and reorganized my necklaces. What was weird about this was that my entire wall was covered in them. Every couple of inches there was a new nail in the wall and on each nail there were four or five necklaces hanging. I grabbed all of my necklaces so I would be "ready to pack" (again, I was supposed to be leaving in a couple of hours). Then at the end of the dream I realized "Oh wait, I'm only a junior."
Again, I'm really only a freshman.

The second dream was last night (Monday night into Tuesday morning). I had a dream that it was the day of my math final. I got to the room where my final was supposed to be held but there was a different teacher. It turned out that a different teacher made the final, was giving us the final, and was grading our final, but we still had the same teacher as always (he was even sitting at his desk). This teacher turned out to be quite insane. Then he hands us our test, which is comprised of about 4 math questions (I just remember that the first one was about matrices). When we were done with the incredibly easy final (which didn't really have anything to do with math at all) he handed us a 100-page packet (book?) of extra credit questions. They were all about extremely unpopular and unknown bands of the 80's (like high school bands from across the country, etc). Somehow each of us got a couple of them right. There was one question that asked "What were the numbers in the matrices in the first problem of the test? If you do not remember, explain why." My class didn't care that the questions were ridiculous because they were extra credit and we all knew we did very well on the real test. The next day our math class met in our school gym and sitting on stability balls instead of chairs. We still had the crazy teacher and my real math teacher was still there. The crazy test-giver explained to us that he was very disappointed in us for not getting all of the extra credit and decided to make the extra credit part of the actual test. I don't remember our reactions to this, but somehow later in the dream the teacher did something/said something that told us that he actually didn't know what math was.

      Part One
People: Sometimes I have dreams that are full of real people, sometimes I have dreams with one or two people I actually know, and sometimes I have dreams where no one person stands out at all (like I'm alone). When I recall seeing someone I knew in my dream, it wasn't that I recognized them or that they actually were themselves, but I just know "Oh, that's ___". I usually don't notice what people look like at all in dreams, but mostly location and items.

Places: I always know where I am in dreams, even if the place isn't real or accurate. In my dreams my house is always on the opposite side of the street from where it usually is, but everything else stays the same. I often have dreams about the park walking distance to my house even though I barely go there anymore. About a month ago I had a dream that involved me living/working in San Fransisco but the setting wasn't San Fransisco AT ALL... I just thought "Oh, it's San Fransisco". I have no idea why this happens. So basically, I always know where I am even if the place I'm thinking of as a place isn't accurate to the real life version.

Plots: I can kind of see where the plots are coming from (usually). I can easily connect the two dreams posted above to things that have been happening in real life. Only when dreams are extremely surreal do I not find a connection. I've had dreams where I'm sitting in my room and all of a sudden my dad runs in and shouts, "It's cereal time!" and when I go into the kitchen the table is just covered in a mountain of frosted cheerios. I don't see the connection with dreams like this, but I see the connection in *sane* ones.

Schemas are a set of rules for the current setting or universe you are in. For example, if you dream of being on Earth you will almost always be held down by gravity like normal whereas if you dream of being on the moon, you would probably be floating. I could use it to do something I've never done before by convincing myself that I am following a different set of rules. I could tell myself, "this is a fairytale, I can turn into a fairy," and convince my mind to let it happen. This would be like convincing the universe to change the laws of physics (the speed of light for example), but actually possible because it is only your brain that needs to be convinced.
