Anyone here also thinks the 1st season tends to (usually) be the best?

      3 Examples for me:

Spoiler for Spoilers regarding BBT, Dexter, Heroes:

It's kind lame to admit, but my favourite show is Jeopardy.
I get excited about trivia the way other people get excited about sports.

Close second would be Adventure Time!

I really enjoyed watching the first series of Peaky Blinders recently.

It's the best thing I've seen on British television for years.

By far, Sleepy Hollow was my favorite TV series. I also like Tomorrow People a lot. I watch Pretty Little Liars and Walking Dead when I have free time

I watch documentaries more than fictional TV shows (I actually don't even have a TV connected at my house) but I watch TV shows online sometimes.
      Two of my favourites lately:

      Awake
They only shot one season and had to wrap it up quickly in the last two episodes because they got cancelled, which was such a shame, because it was an awesome concept. I still enjoyed it despite the abrupt ending.
Summary from IMDb: After a car accident takes the life of a family member, a police detective lives two alternating parallel lives, one with his wife and one with his son. Is one of his "realities" merely a dream?
Wikipedia: Michael lives in two separate realities after a car accident. In one reality (where he wears a red wristband), his wife Hannah (Laura Allen) survives the accident; in the other reality (where he wears a green wristband), his son Rex (Dylan Minnette) survives. Michael does not know which reality is "real" and uses the wristbands to differentiate the two. He sees two therapists: Dr. Jonathan Lee (BD Wong) in the "red reality" and Dr. Judith Evans (Cherry Jones) in the "green reality". At work, Michael's erratic behavior triggers clashes with his team; they do not know about Michael's uncanny ability to solve crimes using details from both realities.

      Black Mirror
Two seasons so far, this is a description of the first:
A suspenseful, satirical three-part mini-series that taps into collective unease about our modern world. Over the last ten years, technology has transformed almost every aspect of our lives before we've had time to stop and question it. In every home; on every desk; in every palm - a plasma screen; a monitor; a smartphone - a black mirror of our 21st Century existence. Our grip on reality is shifting. We worship at the altars of Google and Apple. Facebook algorithms know us more intimately than our own parents. We have access to all the information in the world, but no brainspace left to absorb anything longer than a 140-character tweet. Black Mirror is a hybrid of The Twilight Zone and Tales of the Unexpected which taps into our contemporary unease about our modern world. The three stand-alone dramas will be sharp, suspenseful, satirical tales with a techno-paranoia bent - all audacious ‘what if' stories: some comic, some shocking.

And for those interested in documentary series, Louis Theroux covers a pretty broad range of interesting topics.

Louis Theroux is the shit. I think I've seen everything he's ever done.

I'm also a huge fan of Vice and speaking of HBO, Last Week Tonight is killing it, and I also just got into The Newsroom as in I started it last night and stayed up watching it all night. I wish I lived in the alternate reality where it actually exists.

I love The Newsroom, I can't believe I forgot to mention it!
Probably the best scriptwriting I have ever come across in a TV show.
The opening scene gives a good idea of the style/theme you can expect from the series:

Vice is basically just anecdotes and social commentary, so it's entertaining but not necessarily the best source of facts.

Last Week Tonight just did a brilliant piece on our fuckwit Prime Minister, Tony Abbott. I hope the world is watching and laughing to put some pressure on the right-wing bigots of Australia to cast a better vote next time.

On a lighter note... Scrubs was another favourite of mine, I'd love to watch that again from the start sometime.

Vice is expose, "anecdotes and social commentary" sounds like punditry, are we thinking of the same show?

Perhaps not, I'm thinking of a youtube channel... Some episodes I can think of are the Japanese love industry, world's scariest drug, and um... donkey sex. :hurl:
You're right though, the one I'm thinking of does deal more with specific issues than complete topics. And I guess most documentaries have some kind of bias by default, anyway.

They do human interest pieces, it's a lot like Louis Theroux except they cover shit like the birth defects in Falusia and the Polygon, rebel groups like the Syrian Kurds and in Southeast Asia, slave trade and stuff like that.

Fort Boyard, Robot Wars, Lost. But all of these don't air anymore, and so there's no point in watching TV - I mostly watch anime now

Although I worry about the direction they're taking it (Read: Non-Johnlock)... But the quality is still good.

@~Dreamer~: Awake - oh yepp! But I only saw the first one on youtube - I'll get my husband on it! On Black Mirror as well!

Ooh - most definitively! Will check out the others. I saw the five seasons of "The Wire" lately - also HBO. About Baltimore and it's drug dealers, addicts, police, politicians and press - following real stories in part, very sophisticated, no black and white view - weell - sort of a bad joke, this...
Get subtitles, though, English subtitles - I watched the other stuff all in English - but many native speakers need them as well, because of the heavy dialect/slang. "Rome" was also fantastic!
The concept of pay tv with high quality stuff is a great development in my eyes.

Favourite tv show as such: Qi with Stephen Fry - stands for "quite interesting" - I love this - and him anyway!! That's the first of a playlist - don't remember, if this one was especially good - but they all are! Depends a bit on his guests - I saw dozens of them, surely - and learned lots of quite interesting and often bizarre things while laughing my behind off! They also come in XL with 45 min. Very good for alleviating gloomy moods!

If you don't know "Blackadder" - that's a must!! Different historic periods - this is from the first world war season with Atkinson, Laurie and Fry - and Baldrick:

It's planned to make a tv series of John Scalzi's "Old Man's War" cycle - I love the books, he says he works closely with them and promised, it's going to be good. So looking forward to all the aliens!! He's got the best aliens of all, second would be Ian M. Banks for me, but Scalzi's are even better.

I don't even have a tv of my own - my husband has in his sleeping room and watching tv is almost like going to the cinema for me - we only watch such things, actually. When darts is on, I sometimes get to see it there, usually only per stream on my pc. Sure - I could go watch, when he's not there, but somehow I don't, I don't even want to learn, how to get at normal tv, there's tons of modes, gaming, from USB, internet, four remotes...
He hates normal German tv, and I tend to mostly agree.
It's a good thing - before mine gave up the ghost years back - I would often feel bored and zap about and later be unhappy about the waste of time. Nowadays I read a lot and hang on my laptop for ages - if that's so good, the latter - other topic/question - at least it's interactive and I chose the content...

Haven't watched the wire yet, will definitely watch it soon!

Happy Endings, New Girl, How I met your mother are light comedy shows, Weeds and Sherlock are definitely more serious but with lots of humor as well, Supernatural can be pretty funny too (you will probably like the protagonists ) and Lost tends to be pretty sad sometimes but is still awesome!

      Ha!!
We watch Sherlock now, BBC - wonderful!
Can't wait for the next episodes. I saw Cumberbatch as Kahn in Star Trek and wanted to have it - and I'm not disappointed at all!
Highly recommended - probably many of you know it already anyway.
      Most amusing.

You guys are pretty old-fashioned for watching tv in this day 'n age
I used to watch Nickelodeon and Fox Kids a lot as a kid, but who didn't back then? I loved Spongebob, Jimmy Neutron, Rocket Power, we watched Mythbusters with the whole family, Brainiac used to amaze me and crack me up all the time, smash labs and other science shows on National Geographic and Discovery Channel.
If I have to pick a favorite I would choose Kenan and Kell I think, loved that a lot. I can´t really remember all the shows I used to watch, I watched a ton of tv when I was a kid, until I got used to the computer and I could watch whatever the hell I wanted

Good thread, I love these nostalgic things Sometimes I listen to music just for the nostalgia for it

Oh, ofcourse how can I forget these! Cold Case is my actual favorite and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit a close second. I watched these a lot like 5 years ago

Gotta say that my favorite is definitely the Regular Show, one of the chillest shows I know.

Ah - but it's not the same tv-watching it used to be - being bound to when they air what and watching it at that time.
These days there are pay-tv productions, where you can download stuff or get the DVD or however you get it - you can then watch whenever you like. These productions have enough money to put something as extensive and expensively produced on it's feet as Game of Thrones for example. That's great!

I deem this a modern phenomenon and very practical. It's been ages I didn't actually watch normal German TV - pretty horrible, quality-wise. If I were in the UK, I would probably watch stuff also as it comes, without picking and choosing - the Beep is seriously so much better. Even the news...

I got myself a nightmare and SP and that blasted Hound of Baskerville as HI last night, brrr. Husband and me are meanwhile addicted to the new BBC 'Sherlock' stuff. Nope - it's not actually fearsome to watch, I'm usually able to watch really scary stuff without nightmares. But this Hound managed to jump over to haunt me for some reason.
Sort of funny - it's the effect of a hallucinogen in the episode, and then I go ahead and hallucinate it. Well done Steph..
Maybe because of my husband being on sick leave and us having watched three episodes in a row directly before bed.
