Album of the week? Would anybody be interested?

I dunno, I had an idea that maybe we could discuss albums each week. Like, one per week?

When it's your turn, you can choose your favorite album and we'll dissect and discuss it. Personally, I mostly listen to whole albums at a time, like it was before the time of CDs when you pretty much had to do that.

Anyways, I'll go first and my pick is the albums *double album* Mezmerize & Hypontize by System of a Down, both released in year 2005. They're getting back together! ^_^

      1. "Soldier Side - Intro" 1:07
      2. "B.Y.O.B." 4:15
      3. "Revenga" 3:48
      4. "Cigaro" 2:11
      5. "Radio/Video" 4:09
      6. "This Cocaine Makes Me Feel Like I'm on This Song" 2:08
      7. "Violent Pornography" 3:31
      8. "Question!" 3:20
      9. "Sad Statue" 3:25
      10. "Old School Hollywood" 2:56
      11. "Lost in Hollywood" 5:20

      Love it ↑

      1. "Attack" 3:06
      2. "Dreaming" 3:59
      3. "Kill Rock 'n Roll" 2:28
      4. "Hypnotize" 3:09
      5. "Stealing Society" 2:58
      6. "Tentative" 3:36
      7. "U-Fig" 2:55
      8. "Holy Mountains" 5:28
      9. "Vicinity of Obscenity" 2:51
      10. "She's Like Heroin" 2:44
      11. "Lonely Day" 2:47
      12. "Soldier Side" 3:40

      My favorite video everr ↑

Favorite song out of every track ↑

I hate Lonely Day!! Absolutely the worst song SoaD has ever produced! How could they make such a gay, emo, faggotry of epic proportions song! GAH!
Other than that I quite enjoy those albums.

I like System. I am, shamefully, a big fan of particular songs.

I used to be really into SoaD, then I got really into things I like way more c:

I still enjoy a good listen to BYOB or Toxicity here and there though.

Great idea, Seroquel. =) Great album too. SOAD will always be in my Top 5, forever! Can't wait to hear some new stuff or see them in concert.

I did enjoy Serj's solo stuff, but it was basically SOAD more mellow and no Daron. Sorry, a bit off topic.

I don't really like SoaD, but I'll give them both a listen for sake of keeping an open mind. I'll post back once I listen to both.

It's been a week. Time for a new album!

Probably my favorite album of all time. Purple Onion by Les Claypool's Fearless Flying Frog Brigade!

      1 "Purple Onion" – 1:43
      2 "David Makalaster" – 4:41
      3 "Buzzards of Green Hill" – 4:06
      4 "Long in the Tooth" – 1:51
      5 "Whamola" – 5:00
      6 "Ding Dang" – 5:50
      7 "Barrington Hall" – 4:16
      8 "D's Diner" – 5:44
      9 "Lights in the Sky" – 4:35
      10 "Up on the Roof" – 3:39
      11 "David Makalaster II" – 7:25
      12 "Cosmic Highway" – 7:14

A truly unique album. The only thing that sounds like Claypool, is Claypool. My favorite song is probably Barrington Hall, but I was unable to find it on youtube .

^ Features the Whamola. An instrument Claypool himself invented, and it has an awesome sound to it.

Never heard of these guys before, but that was really different and interesting. Is the Whamola the wah-wah-sounding instrument? Also, what genre would you classify this as?

Yea, it almost sounds like a synth. When my friend and I first heard it we couldn't figure out what it was. And then we saw it and were amazed.

As far as genre, I have no idea. It's pretty unique. Like I said, the only thing that sounds like Claypool IS Claypool. The Copy of the CD I have has the genre listed as "Primus" (the more famous Claypool band). I would just classify it as Les Claypool.

If you liked it I suggest looking into Primus, Oyster Head, and Colonel Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains. All three of those are awesome.

Quick fun fact. Les Claypool wrote the theme songs to South Park and Robot Chicken.

Now that is interesting. I certainly hear the similar quirkiness

      Seventh Wonder - Mercy Falls

I think the album is appropriate, as it is a concept album about a man who falls into a coma and dreams about a town called Mercy Falls. The storytelling is actually really cheesy, but there is a heavy use of metaphors here. Anyway, I suggest it to anyone who likes other prog metal, especially Dream Theater. If anyone actually decides to listen to it, I can clarify any key points in the story if you'd like, as I've listened at least 10 times since I first heard it.
