So my friend recommended the show lost to me the other day since he recently got hooked on it. I was never a fan and tried to get into it many times with no avail. I gave the first episode a try and ive been hooked ever since. Im up to season 4 episode 12
Spoiler for SPOILER:
where they find the c4 on the freighter
The whole series is on netflix and i highly recommend giving it a watch, you'll be hooked on this captivating series
I wasn't too much of a fan of the series. I felt like I was watching a very unrealistic version of Castaway (with Tom Hanks). Don't get me wrong, the show is good, I just don't care for the relationship part of being stuck on an island.

Ah, how far did you get? It is nothing like Castaway, apart from being stuck on an island.
I just started to watch this show a couple weeks ago, and am already starting season 4. This is because I've been watching about 6-8 episodes per night. I've been warned that it becomes terrible, and I'm starting to see what people are talking about, although it isn't terrible. Seasons 1, 2 and 3 were amazing. I've become completely addicted to it. I didn't expect to think much of this series and only watched it because it's been recommended, but it could easily compete with Breaking Bad and Dexter. It's just the last few episodes that it's gotten a little weird. In general I know what's going on, but sometimes it seems the viewer is supposed to be confused by the scenes skipping forward or back in time and not telling you when it's supposed to be taking place.
It wasn't weird at all at first, for the first two seasons. It seemed the classic deserted island scenario and was entertaining to watch them try to get along and form groups, to watch their leadership struggles and developing relationships, and it was exciting because there was a lot of mystery and weird shit going on. It does involve a lot of drama, but not the annoying kind.
Two things bother me about the early seasons. One is that there are supposed to be over 40 people on the island, yet they only show the main 8 or so protagonists. The others are just extras, nothing extraordinary happens to them at all. The main group doesn't befriend anyone outside of it. It just seems a little unnatural and weird. It really seemed throughout season 1 that those 8 or so were really the only people on the island. The others were rarely even on camera, and the odd time one was, it seemed really strange, like this person was here the whole time in the main story but we haven't met them yet. It seems the director or w/e even realized this partway through and started subtly joking about it by making other characters label them a 'clique'. The only other annoying thing is that all of their lives are so unrealistically exciting. In a group of 10 people you'd be lucky to get one with a life as exciting and entertaining to hear about as any one of those main characters. I'll excuse that because it makes the story more exciting. But the first issue... I don't see why they didn't just make the main characters the only ones who survived the crash.
Spoiler for early season 4:
For the last few episodes I thought bearded-Jack was past-Jack, and that we were now discovering he did have a drinking and drug problem at one point, but then he sees Kate and talks about returning to the island. When he saw Kate, I first thought they must have known each other in the past, and that was a huge plot point. But then when he mentioned 'going back there' I realized that this was taking place in the future, not the past, after they were rescued. So now all of it makes sense, why he was suicidal and stuff.
But I don't know if I was supposed to know that before, if there was some hint I had missed, or if that scene is when I was supposed to have figured out this was really the future.
And there's a lot more like that, scenes in which you aren't supposed to know what's going on, in which the puzzle pieces just don't fit together because most of it is missing. I still don't know if the scenes show what really happens, or only what 'would have' happened if they wouldn't have done something they're actually going to do. Maybe someone's going to come back from the future now and make them stop. Or maybe they do get rescued, go back to the island and the next two seasons are about that.
The show was about them being stranded on an island, so now with all these weird things happening, being captured, rescued, too many new people introduced, it feels wrong. Really uncomfortable, like I just want to see the characters I'm used to. Some new ones are okay, but too many isn't good. It feels like something about the whole atmosphere of the show has changed, like they got a new director and new writers or something. If they do get rescued and aren't even going to be on the island anymore, or come back years in the future and don't have the same relationships or anything among one another, it just isn't going to be the same. I hope that isn't what happens.
Lost was a terrible show to follow, however, it is a great show to watch. Kind of like Dragon Ball Z. Watching an episode a week were Goku screams is boring, but if you have it all ready to watch as you want, it's not really that bad.
The problem with Lost was simply the amount of plotlines constantly being visited. The story progressed very slowly as a result, and the exploration was often quite limited. Ultimately, Desmond was probably the most interesting character, because he had just that, character. All the others were just stereotypes.
Lost was awesome for the first 3 seasons. I stopped watching completely after the first few episodes of the 5th season because it just seemed ridiculous to me. I forgot or missed a few things and suddenly nothing made sense, so I just decided I didn't have the patience for it lol. I really enjoyed the earlier seasons though.
