      Cloud Atlas 2012

I enjoy David Mitchell's books and Cloud Atlas was the second of his that I've read. However, I've always felt that putting this on the screen would inevitably be a bad idea. Not to mention, Tom Tykwer has a widely over-inflated conception of his creativity and intelligence, which often results in confused, pretentious and unconvincing films. Nevertheless I love the book so I'll be in the theater to check this out when it comes out later this month -- Release Date: October 26, 2012

I saw the trailer for it, looked pretty interesting. So the book was pretty good? I might read it if it is, before I see the movie.

I'm in the fourth chapter of the book....been reading the ebook on my comp but I think I just need to head to the library and pick it up. It seems okay so far. As long as they nail Frobisher, I would be pleased. He's my favorite character so far.

What an extremely confusing and disjointed trailer.

That's pretty much how the book has been so far.

I enjoyed book and I've been quite impressed with David Mitchell's writing style which is quite masterful imo. The disadvantage to me is the simple fact that it's going to be extremely difficult if not impossible to translate it over to film adequately. If each story in this book were to be stripped completely, exposing the essential bare plot elements of the stories then its very easy to see that they're not all that original, but with the structural elements and sporadic astuteness this book carries, makes that fact pretty obscure. I know films are, for the most part based in plot and do not normally carry the same flexibility as novels when juggling multiple plots (which is something this particular novel treads on) so sadly a film adaptation will almost by its very nature omit everything that will be looked upon as best in the book. I don't really think the film will be as impressive as the book but I like to keep an open mind to it and hope that I'm pleasantly surprised opposed to predictably disappointed.

Ah Frobisher The 4th chapter was a bit difficult but the 8th chapter sheds light on some complexities there. The 5th Chapter onward becomes more and more exciting. Especially the 5th and 7th Chapters.

No! What are you thinking? Movie before book, whenever possible.

I saw the trailer at Looper last night and it looked interesting. I think they're trying to sell it as a phenomenon like The Matrix (which really was mind-blowing in the the theater, before the sequels watered the whole thing down), which it may or may not live up to.

Okay I couldn't help myself and I saw the movie today ;_; it was really good and confusing at some points. I am def going to read the book now, which I know it is stupid that I saw the movie first. But I'm going to go with it, obviously the movie couldn't get everything in the book so hopefully it will be a good read. I can only imagine how much more intricate the book is. Plus, now I have some visuals of the characters...right? I'm quite confused as to how the book is going to be set up, as the movie was so sporadic....but oh well. Hopefully they have it at the library.

I just saw the movie today and liked it! I haven't read the book yet, but I do look forward to that read. Maybe, having seen the movie will help with the confusion (if I didn't know the basic story, prior to reading it).

Ooooh, Cloud Atlas is one of my favorite books! I saw the movie last weekend, and I was pleasantly surprised by its quality. It was a little bit melodramatic at times, but they nailed Part 2, which was my favorite, so I think that made up for it.

I haven't read the book yet, I figured I'd go and see the movie first (and I really liked it!).

Fell asleep in the movie. Maybe the book is more worthy of my attention?
