That's the thing about consoles. You can't say "oh it only has x amount of cpu, ram or video" because developers push the fuck out of the system. Where on the computer, if it doesn't meet specs, it's screwed. Find a computer with the same specs as an Xbox or PS3 that can run skyrim or Crysis as well. I have one of those computers. It can can beat them playing oblivion, but won't even run the games I mentioned.

Nope, just wanted to hear some kind of reason why you find the PS4 interesting. Everybody knew they were going to increase the numbers to a certain range, and that's just what they did.

I don't think you understand what I'm saying, either. When I say new hardware, I'm not talking about BluRay players or time travel (lolwut). I'm talking about gaming hardware. Qualitatively, the PS4 is the same hardware as a PS3. What's interesting about something staying the same? Genuinely curious.

Xei, do you really think investors are going to put up money for that kind of risk? Do you think the majority of consumers are going to buy into something like that? Right now the gaming industry has financially taken a lot of losses because of those risks (psp go, Sony Ericson playstation phone anyone?) and I doubt anyone is going to try to do much outside of the box in the next five years. You can't possibly expect that out of consoles because that market doesn't work like that.

Even if they did give a system all the bells and whistles, the price is going to be too high to buy. Or visually it's not going to be much better than the last system. So while you sit there unimpressed about what it can't do, the rest of us will be happy about what it can do. Run games better than the previous generation, and allow developers to put more things in the game that they may have left out.

I'm not unimpressed, just unsurprised. Are you surprised that Sony announced a new console with enough horsepower to play the new generation of games? I just don't understand all of the excitement on the internet for the console itself. What were people expecting to see, exactly..? A PS2? With respect to thinking outside of the box; there's plenty of space to do that with software and peripherals like the Move.

No, it's just like when a sneak preview of a movie is shown. You know it's going to fall under a certain genre, and have the same basic plot schemes, but it's still something right?

Simply because it's news. And it's not the 'millions were killed by the tsunami', 'tensions are rising between countries' stuff we hear day in and day out. It's actually good news. I mean Why wouldn't you expect a gamer infested internet to get "excited"? Even the PC gamers are happy because they know that minimum system requirements are going to jump and actually make their system work a little harder.

Of course, and the more stuff they keep in later development, the easier it will be to breathe life into the system later down the road. I just don't want to pay for that stuff up front. Keep that shit optional. While some people are super giddy because they think Sony walks on water, there are others like me that are happy that they didn't come out with a console that uses a tablet that has google maps on it.

Like what? I mean - considering that the announcement was a teaser, and we don't quite know the full scope of how they will be utilizing things like the Move - what are you proposing is 'missing', so much, at this point (that, like Auron said, developers are going to risk experimenting on)?

You mentioned virtual reality. Sure, devs are reaching for that (slowly, but surely), but who's going to risk launching their console with technology as new (and unrefined) as we have for VR, now? I think the Occulus Rift is probably the closest thing we have to a market-ready VR system right now. Do you think Sony or Microsoft is going to gamble with pricing their systems high enough to cover tech like that added onto their next-gen systems? Should they wait-out Microsoft and not release a next-Gen console until that type of tech has shown proof of concept, and that it's ready for mass production? What do you propose they do?

And if not VR, what else might have you expected to see? I only use the time-travel joke because I don't see any real examples of the tech/concepts that you're suggesting should so obviously be included in this coming generation, which wouldn't take an insane amount of risk to introduce for the first time. So it's hard to see where you're coming from.

If it doesn't turn my bedroom into the Danger Room or a Holodeck, I'm not excited!
