The Legend of Zelda: Best one?

Topic. Zelda has been one of my favorite video game franchises since I first picked up A Link to the Past when I was six or seven. The legend of the hero of time and his many reincarnations echoing throughout the history of his world is just so epic. Anyways, I'm just curious to see if anyone else at DV shares my interest! ...By the way, anyone here play Skyward Sword? What did you think about it..? Spoiler for thoughts on Skyward Sword (possible spoilers, read at your own risk): I thought it was OK enough...Not the best Zelda ever made. It kind of felt like a demo for the motion+ technology more than a full-fledged adventure. The swordplay was an interesting aspect, even if it lost its magic later on. There wasn't much of a sense of urgency in the plot; it did not feel like an epic quest. None of the NPC's seemed to have any idea the world was even in danger, nope, they just go on with their daily lives as you save the world. There is no exploration in Skyward Sword. You revisit three areas over and over for the entirety of the game. They hold your hand while telling you exactly where to go from the very beginning all the way up to the final boss fight, leaving nothing to be figured out or discovered by the player... Like you're some sort of dumbass with the attention span of a goldfish! Which brings me to Fi. Wow, she was incredibly annoying with her meaningless percentages and her knack for stating the obvious and never shutting up. She was constantly explaining every little thing that happens around you. Always summing up and simplifying everything the NPCs say, mere seconds after they get done saying it. Give me a fucking break before I puke in my mouth! But despite all of these glaring flaws, I thought the dungeons were well done, the arsenal was excellent and it was pretty interesting to see how Ganondorf and the master sword came to be! I give Skyward Sword a 6.75/10 overall. /rant P.S. I voted for TP. Majora's Mask comes in close second.

Wow, I thought for sure that it'd be all OoT. Granted not that many people have voted, but still. For me, it was a tough choice between OoT, MM, and ALttP, but Majora's Mask won over all.

My favorite has always been Link's Awakening, it's not nearly as well played as the N64 titles or some of the newer games but it does have it's devoted fanbase. The concept art is incredible, especially considering it was for a gameboy game

I voted for Ocarina of Time. I barely remember playing the game boy ones and I tried majora's mask but didn't finish it. I was younger when Ocarina came out and absolutely loved the music and gameplay. I feel like giving it another go now...

Lol, I like how each game that has a votes only has a single vote so far, I guess it just goes to show how good the games are. I don't really like the newer ones past TP, but I loved playing all the games up until and including TP. ALttP was the very first Zelda game I owned, I think I was like 5 or 6 when I got it. I had no idea what I was doing, it was actually very challenging back then haha. I spent countless hours playing OoT and MM too, not even doing anything really either a lot of the time. I mean yeah I beat the game and all the sidequests, but as a kid it was easy just to mess around in a game. I wish I still had that ability now, it slowly vanished as I got older and now I can hardly just mess around in a game at all and have a good time doing it. :\

I love skyward sword! Now, it does have its faults, three places gets kinda boring. I missed epona. But the fights? In other zelda games I could just button smash my way through. In this one I had to actually wield this digitized sword - if I sucked - I lost! If I did good, I won! No other zelda is so rewarding of your skill to defeat monsters. Sure lots of moves were introduced in Twilight, but for the most part they weren't even necessary. I can't go back to a controller! I want my wii-sword! BUT----does that make it the best zelda? Nah. The whole sky and bird thing is still kinda weird for me. And I can't stand link and his constant twirpy expressions. He gets twirpier every game. Majoras Mask is an amazingly complex game. But half the time you aren't even link, youre transformed. And zelda, who the game is named for, doesn't exist in it? So its a great game, but its like a mutant-zelda game. Twilight Princess was also a great game and the most awesome character in the zelda series yet! But like Majora's Mask, I can't seem to play it all the way through twice. I love transformations in dreams, but when it comes to zelda - I wanna be Link! So for me, it's Ocarina of Time. Maybe its my age group, but that IS the classic zelda for me! It was my first zelda game. And it lived up to everything I thought a zelda game should be. Dungeons galore. Huge map. Treasures to find. Puzzles to solve. Consistent story arch. Horrifying monsters. Characters who change! Epona. You're link 100% of the time and Zelda actually exists! Now, remake that with my wii-sword. I havent played the others, I really wanna play wind waker though. edit: for years it was my ritual to play OoT for christmas, just didnt feel the same if I didnt

I voted Windwaker simply because of how it was the first one I attempted to complete in its entirety. I remember going on websites looking at the concept art and trying to draw them out, and I absolutely loved the music. I just simply loved it, it may not be the best to some, but with how I found myself playing it countless of times and seeing those moments where Link gets the Master Sword and powers it up, and how he defies the laws of gravity when defeating Ganondorf, as a kid, that was cool to me. I even used floppy disks....FLOPPY disks and stored as many concept art from Ocarina of Time and Windwaker as I could for no apparent reason! I just loved the art. Twilight princess is second because I liked Midna personally and her character. Hated having to get those orb thingies I can't be bothered to remember the name of. When I saw her in her final form, I went crazy (probably because I liked the other-worldly beings more at that time and still do). Tetra in Windwaker wasn't even an ice queen ( Urban Dictionary: ice queen ) compared to Twilight Princess, she went from a seemingly suspicious pirate to someone that eventually starts caring for Link and the ending where they go off in a ship together, I always wondered what would happen next. Tetra was just the type of Zelda I really grew to love personally compared to the other Zelda's that seemed more apathetic. Ocarina's Zelda was a bit too innocent and child-ish, classic spoiled brat while Tetra held her own in the Windwaker, and her men respected her dearly. She was rough at first, but she obviously cared about her crew-mates and eventually grew a liking for Link. And don't get me started on the Skyward Zelda....she had potential, but when she pushed him off the cliff, c*ck-teasing woman from the start. YOU HAD POTENTIAL WOMAN AND YOU SCREWED IT UP!!! I haven't beaten the game as yet (even though I saw the ending), so my view may change, but Tetra is going to be the #1 Zelda I like, which is why I like Windwaker more. Instead of going back to her castle only to wait for Ganondorf or some fodder villain to swoop her up again, she actually takes link on a journey WITH her in the end. And the part that really hit me in Windwaker is something that I have yet to see other Zeldas do: TubeChop - The Legend of Zelda Wind Waker: Tetra's Identity Part 2 (00:45) When that music plays, and then cues "I'm so sorry," that almost made me cry seeing her swallow all her pride she had before as this pirate leader and definitely changed completely for better later on in the game. Best Zelda Ever. And he takes Zelda's apology with a smile like nobody's business. The rest just were meh and not a single f*ck for Link's efforts was given that day. Still though, good games, but the rest of the Link's were like "oh look at my green tunic, do I get to do hero's stuff?" The windwaker's Link was wearing it as some tradition, sister gets kidnapped, he's already set to put every effort into saving her. Then when you can play with him with his pajamas or natural clothing, the whole green tunic thing didn't mean shit to him, he can kick ass and take names in whatever get-up. And Tetra, when she first meets Link, unlike other Zelda's, she's like, "What's up with that get-up bro?" He actually had people to care about dear to him, made him less of someone there for looks for all the Zelda fangirls to go drooling over, and more of someone with something to fight for and hold on to.

I wish older games had an hours played counter like a lot of newer games have now, I know I spent countless hours in some games doing nothing at all really. I've thought about it before, it's pretty sad really how that ability vanished. Our imaginations slowly wane as we get older, video games used to be like another playground. I could run in circles talking to villagers and cutting down grass over and over and have a good time. Now if I play games it's all about finding the next plot point/dungeon whatever. If I can't find the next point I either look at a walkthrough or quit. Fuck that.

I picked the Wind Waker too. I've only ever fully played that one, all the others I've only sampled. I've tried getting into them, but I can never get used to the damn names in the intro, too generic for my liking (I know that seems petty, but it can really ruin a game for me, especially if there is no particular force driving me to play it).

You guys who've never beaten ALttP, MM, or OoT need to go download a SNES and N64 emulator and beat those, you honestly don't know what you're missing. Alternatively for ALttP you can get a GBA emulator and dl the GBA version of the game, only real difference is the young link "hyahh" when you swing your sword.

As much as I love all of the Zelda games, Ocarina remains my favorite of all time. This is probably part nastalgia, but also the storyline was just really, really awesome. Second in line would have to be Twilight Princess. Third for me would be Wind Waker, although I absolutely despised the graphics; still, there was a lot to explore, offering a large open world for a Zelda game. Another game I liked, for the old GB, was The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening. An oldie but an absolute classic! And, players of Majora's Mask may have caught the reference to Links Awakening in interactions with the Zora and his band ~SilverWolf~

My mother has Skyward Sword for the Wii; she loves it! I've played it a bit and watched her play, it seems really cool from what I've seen of it. Makes me want to get a Wii ~SilverWolf~

I played the crap out of orcarina of time as a kid. Besides that the only ones I've played through fully were the mimish cap and twilight princess. I don't remember twilight princess so much because getting high messed up my memory, but I remember it seeming too short. I liked mimish cap alot (GBA). Still have to say orcarina is the best even though it pains me to go with the popular opinion especially when I haven't played the others much.

I've played Twilight Princess, Majora's Mask, Link's Awakening, A Link to the Past, Oracle of Seasons/Ages, Wind Waker, and some of Skyward Sword; they are all really good; but to me, none quite match up to the plot of Ocarina. Twilight came close, but I agree it was a bit short.

I voted Link to the past although I was disappointed to see that The Oracle of Seasons and The Oracle of Ages were absent from the list. I guess they would be in other but I thought they were both fantastic games. I have enjoyed all the Zelda games I've ever played but I haven't played the ones for the GameCube and the Wii.

Wind Waker will always hold a special place in my heart, since it was really my first (ALttP I never really finished and it ended up getting lost in one of our moves), but I have to say Twilight Princess. Something about it just clicks with me, and I always manage to really enjoy it. If I could vote two, I'd put WW there too.

Ocarina of Time is the one I have most fond memories of, me and my little brother started playing it on Christmas morning some time in 1998 or 1999, and it was really pleasant to play such a great game and also feeling excited over Christmas. It is also the game that has given me the most intense feelings, with GoldenEye 007 being a close second. I must say I think Zelda 2 - The Adventure of Link is pretty good, although lots of people don't seem to think so. I like the RPG style of that game, and how you can fight monsters in realtime and collect Experience Points.
