Post obscure music that is extremely good.

There is a lot of really good music out there that isn't very famous. If you like any music you think fits that description, please post some here so that more of the world can know about it.

Stereolab is one of my favorite musical acts, and they are pretty obscure. They are very original, and I think their music is astoundingly beautiful.

I saw Mondo Drag on top of a bar in Austin, Texas in 2011 at South by Southwest. I was blown away by how good they were for how little known they are. Lots of really good obscure acts play at that festival.

The folk music from Ecuador is pretty damn good. I am going to look into more of that. Chick Corea is really awesome. I'm a big fan of good jazz. Thank you.

Tinariwen, a group of Tuareg musicians from northern Mali.

I had tickets to see them a few years back, but it got snowed out and I was massively disappointed because they very rarely get even close to my neck of the woods. Just another reason to hate snow (like I needed one). Anyway:

      "Chet Boghassa"

      "Cler Achel"

      "Lulla"

      Also,

Neutral Milk Hotel for the win! Excuse me for the double post, but I am suddenly overwhelmed with nostalgic warm fuzzy feelings. My love for this band can barely be described in words, let alone a mere three videos.

      Stupid limit. >_< Nevertheless:

      "Holland, 1945"

      'Where You'll Find Me Now"

      "Someone Is Waiting"

Tinariwin... That's some unique music I'm not used to. They sound excellent.

Neutral Milk Hotel is awesome too. I'm glad I know about them now.

I saw them when they were still very obscure at a small theatre in Eugene, Ore (95')

The Performing Artist "Laurie Anderson." Sometimes referred to as a WS Burroughs disciple. The story goes that one day he wandered into her house, raided her fridge and nodded off on the kitchen floor.

I saw her at the same theatre at around the same time as above...

Ok,....getting not-so-obscure now, but....hell - they've both been favorites of mine for years:

      Last (but not least :

This is my first vid. My stage name is Rellek.

The music was created with music loops (some original and some borrowed) with Acid Music Studio.

The art is a mix as well, some mine (Gimp / ArtRage / Adobe) and others were googled.

I'm about as obscure as one can be. :p

      The Books.
A duo of cellist and guitarist/vocalist, from New York.
Obscure, I think in terms of variety of instrumentation.

Wiki says, "Their releases typically incorporated samples of obscure sounds and speech", and self-described as "collage music" to "make our own instruments, use our own libraries of sound bites".

      "The Lemon of Pink"

"Enjoy Your Worries, You May Never Have Them Again"

"An Animated Description of Mr. Maps"

I only have two of their albums but even those contain so much.

One of the best baths I ever took included The Books.
      ♡ them.

Going by mainstream standards, probably 95% of the music I listen to is "obscure." But really, most of it is popular or at least recognized within followers of the various genres. So... IDK.

But I've been listening to these guys a lot lately. Here in America, I don't think they're TOO well-known, at least compared to relatively similar artists Amon Tobin or Bonobo. Although they're supposedly pretty popular in the home country of Poland.

This song never fails to put me at ease. Whenever I want to just forget everything, I shut off all the lights, play this song, then just close mine eyes.

This is one of my favorite bands and my favorite lead singers. Unfortunately, a drunk driver killed the bassist when they were getting popular. Despite that they have a cult following in a few places.

Dr. Seuss is Dead - A song about the loss of culture and the angst that goes along with that.

God Machine - A song putting the concept of religion as a sword to the throat.

Dead Girl - A song, allegedly, about a group the lead singer may have killed, but if not, definitely abused in a drug haze. It's a love song tone that makes it so creepy.

Night is the Notion - This is one of my favorite examples of his singing ability post-Acid Bath. It's that dark tone--he dubbed it "Death Folk"-- that is so haunting.

They have two original albums: When the Kite String Pops, and Pagan Terrorists Love Songs. The former is a very raw album, with a mild amount of tracks per song (though A LOT of tracks). The second is far more produced, and you can tell they evolved a lot for that album, production wise. If you end up liking either, get their Demos album, which shows about 14 songs in their most rough cut. Some even have them changing lyrics for chants because he lost the rhythm. It is a very nice rough view of the band.

I love their range as musicians. You can hear one ballad that is nearly a love song (though the imagery is dark) in one song that focuses more on melodics, then you can hear a rough, hard hitting song that sounds like a tractor trailer hitting a piano. Range always impresses me.

      Glad you liked the links.

I honestly didn't think it to be that obscure, but I'm having this highschool nostalgia kick at the moment...

For some reason I wanted to hear first "The Toucher" then "Mic My Mind" by Party of Helicopters.

And the only video I found of the latter is a terrible, broken minecraft montage subtitled in what appears to be Spanish.

My first reaction after...maybe 6-8 years after having lost the album "Please Believe It" somehow?

"Man, I never realized how much their sound resembles Les Savy Fav."

Hmm, there is an Icelandic band called Sigur Růs who are probably pretty obscure in English-speaking countries.
One of their albums is called ( ) on which every track is untitled, and all the lyrics are sung in an invented language called Hopelandic.
The following track is an older one from 1999. The haunting sound is their trademark bowed guitar:
