the first few are good
after that they get seriously tedious
I gave up part way through children of dune
I read and read and read and read, a long time ago. The books are STILL being written by Frank Herbert's descendants.
None of the movies has come even remotely close to doing justice to these works, IMHO.
I've read the first three books, but was told that the fourth and fifth are good as well, so I'll probably get to those eventually. I thought the sci-fi channel's versions were acceptable, but of course, nothing can ever compare to the book, especially those. But these books are not for the faint of heart.
 Frank Herbert
too bad you are reading the books by BRIAN herbert instead of FRANK herbert.
I know...but as I didn't have any idea which book is first. I came to the library and they looked up dune on the computer and it said in the description that House Of Atreid is a prelude part 1 so I took that.
If Brian Herberts books are so good than Frank's books must be even better.
I'm definitely a Dune whore.
I've read them all, even the last few, which were actually utter garbage, as well as the ones written by the son of frank. I can't help myself. I keep hoping that another one will be as good as the first two.. . . it will be a long wait.
Have you read anything else by Frank Herbert? He's got a real thing for communal drug taking.
i've read the white plague, which was my inspiration for studying biology.
If anything, read the first three: Dune, Children of Dune, and Dune Messiah.
I also read "The Santaroga Project" which was interesting. I want to read it again, though, to see if I can get a better idea of what was going on. And I managed to get about a fourth through "The White Plague" but I ran out of time and haven't had a chance to re-visit it yet. It was intreiguing, though!
