      Superman!

Ha! I was wondering if I would be the first to post on it.

It's 1am and I just returned from our (crappy) theater's first showing of the movie and I will say that it was worth the outrageous price that I had to pay, every dollar of it! It wasn't overpowering or a constant strain on your nerves, but that's not to say that it lacked excitement. On the contrary! I was on the edge of my seat quite a few times (and not just because my tailbone still hurts).

I will be seeing this one again soon!.... just as soon as I get my paycheck on Friday. I had to borrow from the folks this time

Glad to see it got a good review! I'll be going to see it soon myself as well.

Of course, I've never been a huge fan of Superman myself. He's just to... well, super.

I've heard a lot of good things about this movie, already. Can't wait to see it.

I've also heard a lot of people that don't like the fact that he's damn near indestructable. Some even call it a drawback of the movie, itself, but hell, after seeing the severe ass-whoopin' Doomsday gave him in the "Death of Superman" comic, I wouldn't mind seeing the Man of Steel in his prime, again.

I gotta wait ages until it comes to the UK. Good to know you gave it the thumbs up Amé, I was afraid that it might come across a bit clichéd- film makers have been belting out the superhero movies at quite a rate recently.

Pretty solid movie all in all. It couldn't quite live up to level intensity set by the early airplane crash scene though.

As for critiques on the concept of Superman as a hero, I think Tarantino says it best through Bill's monologue in Kill Bill Vol. 2:

An essential characteristic of the superhero mythology is, there's the superhero, and there's the alter ego. Batman is actually Bruce Wayne, Spider-Man is actually Peter Parker. When he wakes up in the morning, he's Peter Parker. He has to put on a costume to become Spider-Man. And it is in that characteristic that Superman stands alone. Superman did not become Superman, Superman was born Superman. When Superman wakes up in the morning, he's Superman. His alter ego is Clark Kent. His outfit with the big red "S", that's the blanket he was wrapped in as a baby when the Kents found him. Those are his clothes. What Kent wears, the glasses, the business suit, that's the costume. That's the costume Superman wears to blend in with us. Clark Kent is how Superman views us. And what are the characteristics of Clark Kent? He's weak, he's unsure of himself... he's a coward. Clark Kent is Superman's critique on the whole human race.[/b]

I thought it was one of the best movies I've seen in a while.
