I liked his interpretation, but I would add that right-leaning people have a value he did not put in there: individualism. That's one the biggest values for me, with only one thing trumping it (the moral purity value, which is how I can be pro-life, but also understand the pro-choice ideology). For me I think it's: Moral purity > Individualism > Equality > and way down last on the list is care and "protection" (I don't like the government's idea of what "protection" is ;), nor do I often want it). Of course, I'm sure there are other values, too.

I'm not sure "Respect for Authority" is really a right-leaning value? I mean... I'm pretty sure we've shown that it isn't based on events :facepalm: Maybe it's neither.

I wish we could have meaningful discussions with politically different people. It's so rare. I want to listen, I want to be open minded. I don't want someone just trying to "prove me wrong" or "win". And most of the time, I just feel others have a seething hatred and anger toward people with different views. No respect. I guess it's turned me sour.

I honestly feel that at the end of the day - we don't have to change other people's minds. We shouldn't be trying to - only express ourselves. We just have to respect their different views, knowing that it doesn't make them the devil, and at least try to understand where they are coming from. It doesn't happen very often. :(
