Halloween 2006. Myself and two of my friends decided to go and check out Saw 3 in keeping with the whole spooky theme of the day. To start , let me say that i thoroughly enjoyed Saw, and thought Saw 2 wasn't bad at all. I was really hoping that Saw 3 would be the icing on the cake, but unfortunately i was dissapointed.
So we start off where Saw 2 left us, with an incredibly scared Officer Whatshisname (Donnie Wahlburg) in the dark dingy underground shithole where the two main captives of the original Saw were held. Looking around, the officer sees what once was here, including the severed leg of a former captive. Being chained down, he understands he needs to cut off his foot to break free from his restraints. Realizing he can't do this, he proceeds to smash his foot with a huge rock of some kind, deforming it so he can slip it out of his chain.
Very scary, a nice introduction, leading you to believe that the movie would compare to the previous 2.
So basically, without ruining the whole damn movie, Jigsaw is dying. He and his female accomplice kidnap a doctor to take care of him. The twist is that the doctor has an explosive collar attached to her neck that is linked to Jigsaw's heart rate. If Jigsaw's heart stops, then boom goes the dynamite, and the doctor is dead. If the doctor can keep the lunatic alive until one last victim makes it through another house of torturous horrors, then the doctor gets to go free. Simple enough.
Well, Jigsaw's little partner in crime gets rather vexed with Jigsaw's compassion for the doctor, and needless to say, suffers from a mild case of psychopathic jealousy, all while some poor guy is being faced with hurting himself in order to keep other people alive in some distant little house of horror. Apparently the apprentice never quite lived up to the master's standards and another plot twist plays itself out, and of course we are set up for another sequel, Saw 4: The Sawed, or something like that.
In my opinion, the movie was lame. The suspense was second rate, and most of the stuff that made the first two movies scary has become predictable. The action was slow, and the story was sub par , seriously paling in comparisson to Saw 2 and especially the original Saw movie.
If you loved the first two movies, you'll probably go see this one anyway, but i'd say wait for it to come out on DVD, and even then don't expect much, but hey you don't have to listen to me, that's just my $0.02.
