So.. I just bought this game.
So far I haven't seen any difference in it than any other MMO ever made. I DO LIKE that I don't have to pay monthly fees. That always made me mad with other MMOs.. But so far, it really has been quite dull from what I have seen. I run around... I kill things... Even the people I meet are boring.
Is there something I'm missing?

You're missing the only real reason to play MMORPGs: the "RP".
I, personally, see absolutely no point in playing MMORPGs without roleplaying. Unfortunately though, Guild Wars doesn't have separate RP servers, only one huge in-game world filled with both the RPers and the nonRPers (the larger part of whom are oblivious 5-year-olds that won't be able to build a fulls sentence even under threat of death).

So aye, I'd say you're missing the most fun that can be had in an MMORPG, heh.

I completely, completely agree with you.
I play video games to feel like I'm really there.
The problem with games like this, however, is that there are MANY things that I can't do in this game, and it totally pisses me off.
First of all, I CAN'T WALK!
In real life, I don't run full speed everywhere. Believe it or not, I really don't. Sometimes I walk! The fact that everyone is running all over makes the environment feel completely fake.
Second, I CAN'T JUMP!
What the hell is that all about? How much coding would it have taken to add that handy 'feature'? The high level characters in this game may be able to kill dragons, but until they learn to jump, I'm still one up on them in real life. Today, I got stopped by a SIDEWALK, and completely quit the game.
Third, I cant interact with anything.
Fourth, I haven't found anything to interact WITH! The world in this game supports bows and arrows. Why haven't they invented chairs yet? I may be wrong, but I haven't found any yet.

---o--- my DCs say I'm dreamy.

Hah, I haven't played Guild Wars myself but that's just horrible. Even World of Warcraft has everything stated above and more: walk or run, sit or stand or lie down and sleep, jump or travel about.
I had no idea Guild Wars was that terrible. How very, very odd.

Wow someone made a topic on this. Yeah I've got the first Guild Wars. It's good. I go by the name of either Eldrin Nightfax (Ne/W) or Eldrin Woodfax (R/Mo). I haven't been on in ages though. I agree with sloth about not paying the monthly fee, that was the reason I got it.

Oh and even I think this post is nerdy.

Guild Wars sucks. It has been decided already. Even some free to play games are better.

Don't say Runescape is better than GW because that sucks.

Sorry, even Runescape's role-playing factor is far ahead of that of Guild Wars.

But I agree, Runescape does suck if you judge its graphics and combat system.

I play GW, and WoW. The issue with GW is that for a week your like "dude, this game is sweet!" then you get to 20 and you realize just how boring and gay the game is... I still play it sometimes, but it doesn't really have the depth to keep me drawn. I<3 WoW, but I understand that some aren't willing to pay for it.

I payed for WoW for two years, and I only got to level four. But I did have 200 gold! Someone ran up and gave it to me. He said he was quitting the game.
lol!

I just never could get into it.

I asked a level 40 player one time, 'What do you usually do in this game?"
And he said "I kill bears and collect their fur."
I said, "Really? Me too! I'm 36 levels below you!"

And as my friend once said soon after he got his horse.
"Every game seems big if your character is slow."

At the same time, I did like the fact that I could actually walk, and sit in chairs. Just like in real life! lol!
I used to hang out at the bar a lot. From what I have seen, so far, WoW is best when it comes to role playing, but at the same time, I'm not about to start a character on those servers. It would take me forever to catch up with everyone else, and forever is something I just don't have. I have a real life that requires my attention.

Isn't 200 gold a lot of money in that game? I used to know tons of people who played MMORPGs like crazy. When WoW was released couple of people in my high school (including the valedictorian) waited until midnight when they carted out the games, they each bought a copy, then went back to one of their house and played for 40 hours straight. One of them capped level 60 in 2 weeks. Another guy in my school is the top WoW player in the world or something and he used to be one of the guild leaders of the biggest guild in Evercrack. Once his 200 people guild killed a monster that wasn't supposed to be killed. It took 20 hours straight of dying and rushing back in with 200 people to kill it, and they didn't even get any items because the monster wasn't even supposed to die. But all of them de-leveled 10 times due to experience loss from dying so much, lol.

ROFL! That's a TERRIBLE story!!!

Yeah. 200 gold is an incredible amount of money.
That's why it's sad that I never have gotten into that game. I let my account die. I'm sure my character is still there though, if I pay up.

I have a great deal of respect for people doing pointless things in video games Like speedruns and stuff. Once when I played half-life 2, I got that ball that Dog (robot) plays with, and carried it all the way to the end of nova prospect (like 6 hours further into the game).

Great fun. The best part is that it doesn't make playing the game any More pointless

-

Edit: GuildWars... meh. Average, but pretty fun regarding you don't HAVE TO SELL YOUR FUCKING LIVER to afford it monthly

How did it take you 2 years to get to level 4? That must have been some hardcore role-playing, lol. It take me 10 minutes tops to get to level 4. That was a lot of gold, before The Burning Crusade came out, now my character walks around with 4k on him at all times.

PS: DANG, EXP NAZIS... I hate games were you can de-level.

See? This is why I hate MMOs.

Now my 200 gold is crap? I just lost the only reason I had to ever go back to that game.

As for why it took me 2 years.. I have a six year old newbie on Medievia. A game where most people hero in a week. I actually play him regularly.
I am a hardcore roleplayer. You can find me sitting in castle square, telling people's fortunes for pennies a pop, or looking for my 'lost puppy' even though there are no pets on that game.
I enjoy making it a little more interesting for other people.

I was really into Guild Wars, because I'm a very casual gamer. I have all three guild wars titles. But now i made the switch to WoW and love it. I still think Guild wars is a great pvp game.
WoW-realm dethecus---character---Urag---tauren Warrior
Guild Wars---Kamron Johan Warrior/whatever i feel like.
