I have always loved, and have been more recently become obsessed with martial art films. I was wondering if anyone knows of some great ones. Personally, the best I've ever seen so far is Jet Li's Fearless. So if you know of any, go ahead and share them.

      Greatest MA Films:
(for different reasons, mainly because of the most badass fight scenes, but some are in there just because they are classics)

      House of Flying Daggers
      Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story
      Fearless
      The Legend of Drunken Master
Once Upon a Time in China
      Enter the Dragon
      Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
      Game of Death
      The Matrix (the first one)
      Fist of Legend
      Big Trouble in Little China
      Ong Bak
      Drive

I'll add any more that I can think of, later.

Loved the artsiness of it. I actually haven't watched it for a while... The scene with that man playing the instrument in the rain is my favorite.

      Return of the Dragon

Gotta love Chuck Norris vs Bruce Lee.

I honestly didn't like Hero. I found it boring.

How can you say Ong Bak is one of the best MA movies of all time. If it was the only one it would be the best but it will always be bottom of the list.

I thought Ong Bak kicked ass.

Anyone seen Curse of the golden flower yet? I was...dissapointed, it wasn't what I was expecting.

Because the fights were fantastic and innovative, it's Tony Jaa's breakthrough performance, and it's done a better job of showcasing Muay Thai than any other movie I've seen. Of course the story suffered (which, I'd agree, probably doesn't put it on the Greatest Martial Arts list, for many people), but I loved the movie.

For great martial arts and crappy storylines nothing beats the old Jackie Chan movies (Drunken Master, Shaolin arts of Snake and Crane, Five style fist, etc etc there's a whole list)
It's great to see what someone can do without all the special effects. Very fast, very technical and original and very long fighting scenes.
Only the narrowminded keep order, the genius keeps oversight in chaos.

Has anyone seen any Sonny Chiba films that aren't Battle Royale 2 or Kill Bill? They look awesome but I can't find any; even in the most illegitimate places...

      Animated:

      Ninja Scroll
      Fist of the North Star

..and I remember Princess Mononoke being outstanding, but I was too drunk, when I saw it, to remember whether or not it makes the list.

I think the best ones that I've seen were Tony Jaa's also. Ong Bak and The Protector. I've never seen the majority of the things he does in his movies anywhere else. I didn't think Ong Bak was really that popular of a movie, but I guess I was wrong.

Pretty easily, observe. "Ong Back is one of the best martial arts movies of all time."

I'm not really a "matrix-tard," but I would consider Street Fighter anime.... mediocre and the movies far below par.

Just so there's no confusion, I'm guessing that by "Street Fighter" he means "The Street Fighter", with Sonny Chiba.
Nah. Not really on my list, sorry.

      But, seriously, "Matrix-tards"?
I've got a little extra wit lying around here, somewhere, if you wanna borrow some.
