      Pharoah Sanders

Not sure who listens to jazz here, but I'm going to see Pharoah Sanders tonight, who is likely the best saxophone player alive and arguably of all time.

      Who else

Don't care if its nobody, just had to share this, because it will be one of the most important nights of my life.
Now this is the day you fall upon my waking eyes, Inviting and inciting me to rise, And through the window in the wall, Comes streaming in on sunlight wings, A million bright ambassadors of morning...
And no one sings me lullabies, And no one makes me close my eyes, And so I throw the windows wide ,And call to you across the sky...

I saw him recently at the Melbourne Jazz Festival. It was good, but i'm sure i would have enjoyed it a lot more if i hadn't been so distracted by feeling really horrible/fatigued. I was also going to see McCoy Tyner on the same bill, but i had to leave

      I'm sure you'll have a blast though!

Love jazz... have a great time. Please tell us about the experience!

I have gotten to know (somewhat) the principle sax player of the Count Basie Orchestra - Marshall MacDonald.

Absolutely enthralling... the best concert I've ever seen in my life, a brilliant four piece band. Opened with an epic My Favorite Things that was the basis of the most incredibly mind-easing, numbing and blowing improv I could have ever imagined... Sanders has strayed from the chaotic since his early days(he did a teaser of Creator that only lastd about 8 minutes or so stopping short before even singing) but the beauty that sang from his sax tonight brought me out of my body... he ended with his sing-a-long "Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah" song.

I thanked him and shook his hand afterwards, such a soft-spoken and spiritual man... an aura emitted from him that filled me with calm, and the simple words "god bless you" had such meaning coming from him. The setting was intimate, maybe 60 people max, and the sound was absolutely perfect.

      Incredible.

He played the same/a similar "yeah yeah yeah" song when i saw him, which i thought dragged on a bit, but the bands extended rendition of Coltrane's Giant Steps that they played before it justified it :p

One of the consistent things I have experienced in meeting great musicians and artists is that unearthly sense of peaceful modesty - the "aura" you describe.

They seem to be living in a different place from us mere mortals, and through their music do their best to communicate what it's like.
