      The Lathe of Heaven

Anyone read this book? Written in the 70s by Ursula Le Guin. Its pretty good, and its one that I'm sure a lot of the DVers here would be interested in.

George Orr is a man who discovers he has the peculiar ability to dream things into being -- for better or for worse. In desperation, he consults a psychotherapist who promises to help him -- but who, it soon becomes clear, has his own plans for George and his dreams.

I've heard of it - it looks quite good and might be the next book to read after "Foundation" by Isaac Asimov.

I've actually read a few of her other books - all of the Earthsea chronicles, so I know that this book you're talking about should be good.

There are two films of the Lathe of Heaven

One made in the seventies for PBS with Bruce Davison

one made recently with Lukas Haas

I like them both and I actually used to sleep with the PBS version on hoping it would do something for me...

      it did do something...

it has really cool synth music - the effects are laughable but the story is quite compelling

I own a copy of the book but have not gotten around to it
