Thread: The most frightening film or TV show you have ever experienced

Well, The Ring. I personally prefer the American version but whatever. Also The Eye, which is a Chinese film. I'm surprised that Hollywood hasn't copied it yet.

What made you find the eye scary, There are like, maybe 3 intentionally scary moments throughout i think? : /

Ringu I found more scary than the ring.

Well I've seen it so long ago that now I can't remember specific scenes. Except for one when she was writing at a table and then some dead chick lunged at her outta nowhere? Also, I think it's because I found the story quite unique.

I definitely think the American Samara is way more scary, but I realize that I'm in a really small minority with this. I wonder what makes the Japanese one so much scarier for people?

Yeah, that scene is probably the scariest. That or the lift scene.

Really? I think the american Samara is too sort of plain zombie ish. Which doesnt feel right.


The Japanese one has better movements I find; walking like a spider. Also japanese eyes rolling up work better than american ones. lulz.

Horror movies based on true stories scare the hell out of me. Like The Exorcism of Emily Rose - very scary the first time I watched it!

Yeah I'm the same. That's one of the reasons I found The Mothman Prophecies so fantastically creepy. You'll have chills the entire time. Excellent movie. (Even creepier that I've been to Point Pleasant and live on the Ohio River)

Emily Rose didn't scare me, but I was interested enough after watching it to read up on the real events. I'm still not really sure where I stand on that matter.

The Ring is probably the last movie I've seen that actually creeped me out.

Signs still creeps the HELL out of me. I won't watch it anymore...after something...very, very bizarre happened the last time I watched it.

In the original, Japanese, Ring, the journalist watches the tape for the first time. She's been told that after she watches the tape, the phone will ring; "you have 7 days to live".

So, she watches the tape. A bit freaky. So then what happens?

The phone rings.

My phone.

Can't for the life of me remember who it was, but it did unnerve me somewhat (ok, ok I admit it was scary as shit).

My scariest moment was when I watched the sixth sense for the first time. Scared me badly, although I was a young kid back then

Also, Pet Semetary (the movie) always freaked me out as a kid, but as an adult - the book is WAY scarier than the movie.

Yes! Pet Cemetary was too scary for me when I was little. Also, Poltergeist scared the living hell out of me when I was younger. O_o

I read that. It was stupid, and consequentially I have not watched the film.

I've also worked my way through It, which is a tome. In the end they fight a massive spider or something (GAY), and the girl lets all her friends have sex with her for literally no reason whatsoever (this really happens*, and they are children too).

In otherwords, not a good book. Except for arachnophile paedophiles**, perhaps.


* It's written really badly too. "And then [some young girl] felt wet down there and Bill released a warm white fluid over her". Well, it goes something like that. As if describing severely underage sex in an innocent pseudo-euphemistic way makes it any less shameful and/or perverted.

** I am the first person ever to say those two words in sequence. Sounds good doesn't it?

I dont want to spoil a single scene for you. All I will say is a bunch of friends go into a cabin, play a demonic incantation tape, and all hell busts loose

This talk of crappiness reminds me of the latest Zombie movie by that one famous director. It was so bad.

Yes! I'm not alone in my liking for "The Eye"!...that movie scarred me as I wasn't ready...The ring when it first came out as well...though of course it was copied.../me goes looking for "The Eye"

I find myself laughing at tense moments in horror films...it's like some opposite reaction...I feel uptight and scared, yet I feel compelled to voice my amusement at the faulty plot...:/

Shame, I wanted to hear the story. = / But I get what you're saying all the same.

I haven't been brave enough to watch Emily Rose yet, I've been getting mixed reviews in it. The Ring scared the crap out of me though.

If it makes you feel any braver, Emily Rose got terrible reviews and did horribly at the box office. Can't be too scary, unless they start talking about how much money the movie lost everyone.

No idea, but I guess not. The Shining also had a walking hedge creature that thankfully didn't make it to the pictures.

Still, even with the odd bits, It isn't as bad as the travesty that is Insomnia. King sucks mostly.

As for scary movies, the disfigured villain from Hannibal scared me. A lot. I've got a phobia when it comes to deformity.

The Eye and Dark Water - Chinese and Japanese versions only - are great film. Ring and Grudge were pretty good only if you watch the Japanese versions again - Americans have a talent for making good films into crappy remakes :p

However, it has been a while sinse I have seen a good horror film. So I am still waiting, hopefully the in-the-making Project Zero/Fatal Frame will be great and scary and will not flop like every other game->film titles!

P.S Dark Water is actually more sad - at the end espcially - than scary, though its still a classic and deffinatly worth seeing!

P.S.S I have taken a boycot to American horror films, in my opinion they are a waste of time - all action, to much in-your-face and hardly any atmosphere. :p
