      Godspeed You! Black Emperor?

As a fan of this great band, I was wondering if anyone else is into them here. Seems on every forum there are at least a couple of fans, and I was wondering who they are.

      For the uninitiated: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cS2BrxcWWZA
      Listen. You will understand.

I've listened to EITS, but they just don't have the same atmosphere.

Ah! This thread is old but I had to bring it back!

Godspeed You! Black Emperor has got to be one of the best modern musicians I've experienced.

Their music touches the core of my being. I have had a lot of insane experiences listening to their music. Its just as epic and touching as classical music, but with incredible, modern instrumentals. It may hold place as my favorite band, although thats difficult to determine, as I love so many different artists.

Favorite song of theirs is tied between Storm: Lift Yr. Skinny Fists Like Antennas To Heaven, Static: Terrible Canyons Of Static, Providence, and Sleep Murray Ostril. But that isn't to say that the rest of their stuff isn't amazing.

Check out a couple more of their songs:

      -Storm: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bwz7lUaJDU0
      -Static: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N0fiNI3XZO8

*Note these aren't the entire songs. The full versions last around 20 minutes each.

"We're so engaged in doing things to achieve purposes of outer value that we forget the inner value, the rapture that is associated with being alive, is what it is all about."

This disgrace to civilisation should be done away with at once. Heroism at command, senseless brutality, deplorable love-of-country stance, how violently I hate all this, how despicable and ignoble war is; I would rather be torn to shreds than be part of so base an action! I have to admit that I have been a GYBE fan for a long, long time. However, I have found myself loving Explosions in the Sky more. I own all their albums (both GYBE and Explosions) and have to say that, overall, I like Explosions in the Sky more.

      My favorites:
GYBE - Rockets Fall on Rockets Fall
Explosions in the Sky - First Breath After Coma, Your Hand in Mine (or any song, really, from "The Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place")

I just got a bunch of Explosions in the Sky. Their good, but I'd have to say GY!BE is still my favorite. GY!BE sounds much more epic in my opinion, and from what I've heard of Explosions, Godspeed You! uses a greater variety of instruments.

Not to say Explosions isn't good. I'm listening to them right now.

I just wish GYBE would do some more upbeat happy stuff. Rockets fall on rockets fall was not too bad though.

You have a point. Thats kind of why I like their music so much, actually. It stirs many different emotions. I've found that in many of their songs segments will be sad, and other segments will be more upbeat. Me and their album "Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas To Heaven" had a run in involving a certain psychoactive substance, and the result was a 3 hour roller coster ride into the depths of my unconscious emotions (I basically had a emotional breakdown)... I guess thats one of the reasons I'm now so attracted to their music.

Didn't like it one bit. For atmospheric music I love Sigur Ros, but this has gone too far. Is it even music?

Yes I just found out about them. I'm having trouble downloading their songs, but I plan to check them out very soon.

iTunes Music Store doesn't even have them.
