      Four of my favorite artists.

I like Dead Prez, too, but I know much less about them than the above artists. I also agree with Rastasteez on Sublime, Matisyahu, Wyclef Jean and 311.

I like Jack Johnson (though Newton Faulkner is simialr but better) The Shins and of course Bob Marley. Not really heard of any of the others though... at least not knowingly.
Hi I'm Luffers, quite possibly the smartest person you'll ever meet*

i have 1 dead prez song on my iPod. my friend recommended it. "It's Biggger than Hip Hop". i love it.

i've been listening to mostly my parent's music for the past few years because it's so readily available, and i'm just starting to branch out. i just haven't gotten around to adding songs. i need to do that- i got an 8GB nano for xmas.

Jack Johnson is enjoyable, In Between Dreams at least. Ben Harper is alright, but other than that I haven't really give any of those other artists a listen. I've heard a little Brother Ali, and he was good, but I missed him when he came to town, and if I was into hip hop I'd probably give Mos Def and Common a chance, since they spoken pretty highly of.

Last I checked, Sublime, 311 and the Marleys weren't categorized as "Hip Hop"

But, for more on music that I (personally) listen to:

ANDREW BIRD - I'm fairly familiar with his music but can't say I'm much of a fan. I think I have an album or two that got caught in the shuffle.
      M. WARD - Never heard.
      BRETT DENNEN - Never heard.
COMMON - Possibly the second best MC of all time.
MOS DEF - Easily one of my favorite musicians. His new album is looking great, he's enlisted some great producers.
DEAD PREZ - I like them but I feel they are a bit racist at times (something I could also say of Common but much more so for Dead Prez). They still make some good music, though.
THE ROOTS - The Legendary Roots Crew? What can I say? Amazing. Black Thought is ridiculous.
STEPHEN MARLEY - A fan somewhat but I much prefer Damien and their father.
DAMIAN MARLEY - Amazing artist and a great vocalist.
BOB MARLEY - LOL it's Bob Marley.
      KNAAN - Never heard.
COOL KIDS - I've heard their recent EP (many may recognize them from the Rhapsody/TIVO commercial) but I can't say I'm a big fan. They're good though.
CITIZEN COPE - Heard of them but haven't heard much of their music.
TOKYO POLICE CLUB - Again, I'm familiar with the name but I couldn't name a song or album off the top of my head.
RODRIGO Y GABRIELA - Never heard.
      BEN HARPER - Never heard.
JACK JOHNSON - Eh. He's not bad but if I much prefer someone like Mayer.
THE SHINS - "Again, I'm familiar with the name but I couldn't name a song or album off the top of my head."
JEFFERSON AIRPLANES - "one pill makes you larger, the other makes you small" LOL of course I'm familiar with their two more famous songs and a former roommate is a big fan but I can't say I listen to them much.
LITTLE BROTHER - Eh. I honestly think they're overrated. They have declined with each album IMO and even The Listening wasn't that great.
BROTHER ALI - Dope. Had the opportunity to see him live about a year ago and he put on a great show and of course his albums are great.
Haha I would recommend some artists based on what I can see of your tastes (I'm a bit of a Hip Hop 'head') but it's late and I'm not up to it. If you remind me again later I'm sure I could put you on some artists you may like. I think I'm going to check out a few of the artists that I haven't heard from that list though.
