Guitar Hero (II)...? Should I get it?

Well... this looks ridiculously fun. (Don't talk to me about the importance of real guitars, I really don't care.)

I just looked on Amazon and seems like II has the highest ratings. Who has played this, and would you recommend it?

No! Get Guitar Hero 3! You can download more songs online, there's online play, and the songs are actual master tracks. In 1 and 2 they're just covers. Plus 3 is more challenging and has more multiplayer options (face off, battle, co-op).

Plus the guitars for 3 are so damn sexy.

Guitar hero 2's songs are great, but it's pretty limited when you compare it to 3. On IGN, GH3 is much higher than GH2, i dunno about Amazon.

Ah, do you absolutely have to get the wireless guitar though (for III)? It's too expensive for me.

Download songs online? Hmmmm. How do you transfer them to PS2 then?

I find it gets boring/repetitive/nauseating after a while, but it makes for a great party game, especially on multiplayer.

You can go online through PS2 and download the songs directly to your PS2.

You don't have to get the wireless guitar, i'm pretty sure there's packs that come without it.

Yeah games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band are great for when you have friends over. But their really not all that fun to play alone...

I like playing online. I have an account at guitarhero.com and i just go online and find random people to play (that's online through the Wii)

I also play guitar and it helps build finger strength for that. Plus i just love playing guitar, so...eh.

I actually just learned that PS2 is the only system that you can't go online in GH3 with.

I prefer the tracklist to Guitar Hero 2, even though most of the songs are covers. Guitar Hero 3 in my opinion is meh, I don't like the job that Neversoft did. They...Neversoft'd it.

I would recommend you to start with Guitar Hero 2, if you're a beginner. Guitar Hero 3 is a hell of a lot harder than Guitar Hero 2 was, I find anyway. I much prefer Guitar Hero 3 in terms of the songs though, although Freebird was amazing on GH2. I would say go for the wireless guitar, it's MUCH better than the wired, it's so much easier to control when there's no wire in the way and you can just kick back and enjoy it. I'm not sure about where you live, but here, the prices are relatively similar. Whether you're going to get Guitar Hero 2 pack with a wired guitar, or Guitar Hero 3 with a wireless guitar, you end up paying nearly the same amount. I think the difference is about twenty or thirty bucks extra for GH3 with wireless, around here anyway. I bought it the first day it came out, and it cost me about $130, while GH2 was still about $99 plus tax. Perhaps take a look at the song listings, and see which ones you think you'd enjoy more, and then go for that.

^^ Sorry what was that? Was that the wind? Hmm, oh well.

Thanks for the advice. I sort of decided to hold off on getting it for now since it ooks like it's way more fun to play with others than by yourself. I'll have to force someone at college to get it or something.

If you do get it, I'd go with III. II has many great songs, but they're really lame covers of them. It just makes you cringe every time you hear a great song mangled by some horrible singer.

My excuse is that it's "A DUMB BABY TOY WITH RAINBOW BUTTONS" whereas I am a particularly intelligent baby who prefers subdued tones.

      I love Mark SO much.

What exactly is a "boss" in guitar hero III though? I'm guessing it's some band that you have to play against or something?

A boss in GH3 sees you facing off against some IRL guitarist who nobody's ever heard of. It's kind of like face-off mode in the other games, which has both you and your opponent playing at the same time. In this mode it is your objective to make the other guy fail by having their rockometer drop to zero. You do this by getting powerups, which are had by successfully playing certain series of notes flawlessly, the same way you get star power in other modes. Using the powerup (powerdown?) inhibits the opponent's ability to play in some way, causing them to screw up and their rockometer to drop.

Lol, cause no one's ever heard of Tom Morello or Slash

And if you actually haven't...Tom Morello is from Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave, Slash is from Guns n Roses. Shame on you if you haven't heard from those bands.

Like i said before, i play real guitar, been playing for about 7 years, but i find GH3 to be not only fun but a good finger strength building exercise.

What's cool is you face off against these guys with songs that they wrote for guitar hero themselves, and then play one of the band's songs. And in the end you face Lou...so damn hard. Lol.
