      CloverField

Not sure if its out yet...but is anyone going to see this? It's kinda got me interested...

I do want to see it but I'm going to be mad if it's just Godzilla...

      Not yet, 7 more days!

Though I think there are probably like a dozen other threads on Cloverfield...

EDIT: Okay, so this is only the 3rd. But the point still stands Click

I have seen the trailer, it looked like it was pretty good, it happens to come out right on my birthday too.

Good way to build suspense for the film though, to put something in it that no one really has any idea what it is, though yeah I'd hate to see it be Godzilla but it will probably be something similer, I don't know much about the film.

It comes out in just five days where I live. I can't wait to see it; it looks awesome.

As has already been said though, it'll be really dissappointing if it's just a giant monster.

We saw all these Godzilla toys, and I thought, we need our own monster, and not King Kong, King Kong's adorable

Five young New Yorkers throw their friend a going-away party the night that a monster the size of a skyscraper descends upon the city. Told from the point of view of their video camera, the film is a document of their attempt to survive the most surreal, horrifying event of their lives
      ~Wikipedia

Sounds to me like it will be a monster movie so I'm guessing it will be similar to godzilla.

The consensus is pretty much that (not to spoil anything, but it's all just theory, anyway) that it is one huge monster (not Godzilla) that can infect humans somehow, with some type of virus, and smaller monsters associated with it.

From what I can gather, it's a kind of Cthulhoid frog-seal the size of a small city.
If you have a sense of caring for others, you will manifest a kind of inner strength in spite of your own difficulties and problems. With this strength, your own problems will seem less significant and bothersome to you. By going beyond your own problems and taking care of others, you gain inner strength, self-confidence, courage, and a greater sense of calm.Dalai Lama

I've heard all the whale/seal/gozilla/frog/power ranger etc. theories but the most recent thing I read was that it was actually an alien that has little parasites or something all over it that come off it and infect other people.

Yeah, Im excited for this also. Id think it would be cool if it never really showed the monster at all. It just shows how you can be scared of something and not know what it is.

My friend wants me to go and see it with him.

      No chance.

How bad must a film be if the movie studio has to resort to vague viral marketing as a desperate ploy to gather an audience? I would at least want to know what it is about at least.

They can all crawl back up their own arses. The marketing guys, I mean. Treating me like a rabid idiot, when all they've got is a sub-b3ta sub-4chan photoshop of a headless statue. Is that the best you can f---king muster? How about a plot? Or where you to busy using the clone tool? Pretentious arses.

Yeah I'm pretty annoyed about it.

And big monster films are so boring anyway.

...are you joking? I honestly love these vague viral marketing schemes. They really build up the hype, which is often far more fun than the actual thing itself.

All the conjecture, and theories that build up around things like this where the viral marketing has worked is just...beautiful.

I'm sorry that you need a plot summary and a gallery of spoiler images before going to see it.

I agree that the hype is fun, but I refuse to give people money for just hype. I've wasted too much money on hype. So I won't be seeing this in the theater.

it may well just be a giant monster, there was a glimpse of a giant godzillaish leg in the the trailer, slowed down. Or am i lying? Is there a bigger surprise waiting?

I wouldn't pay for hype, no, I'd pay to see the actual film because I think it's something I would enjoy based on what the hype vaguely describes, and because I think there's some intelligence behind it, as opposed to the trailers you see for almost every other Hollywood film in which the entire plot is explained by a booming deep American voice with lots of quickfire clips to illustrate it. They annoy me more than vague hype, if anything.

Hype engages you, makes you think and theorise. Though I'll agree that we will always be disappointed. But it's fun to hope.

It may be just a big monster, but if it's done well that could work very well.

I'm with you on this one, Sin. To tell you the truth, I'd like it if more movies were more creative with their marketing. I think it helps create a mythos around the movie, and helps draw you in more. The sense of mystery behind this movie, so far, is incredible. Judging by the trailers, it doesn't look like it's going to disappoint, or looks like it will, at the very least, be worth a look. I wouldn't be going to see it just because of the marketing. I honestly think it looks like an interesting movie.

A supposed image of the monster...
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pLMETAsyPVw

I believe that it is concept art for the monster but not the finished model, since the monster has claw marks seen all over the Statue of Liberty, and webbed hands wouldn't work too well for that.

That's why I love M. Night Shyamalan so much...his trailers are amazing and don't give anything away. And the movies themselves I always love. But that's me.

This is supposedly the most accurate depiction of the Cloverfield monster (and the smaller ones) that there is, according to official "movie scoop" sites. I think it looks awesome.

      Link

Oh, and as far as the significance of the title, Spartiate, "Cloverfield" is the code-name that the military gives to the "project" (the monster), and the surrounding event, if I understand correctly.

But that's just fanart. The reason I think the image that I linked to may be more accurate is because of this:

Theories have been posting a picture of this monster who was created by Peter Konig who is Tippett's art director for the upcoming, top secret JJ Abrahms production "Cloverfield". Here is a link to the website from where this picture originated. http://www.conceptart.org.
This image is coming from the art director of the movie, not just a fan. But again, I don't think it's the finished creature...because I don't think he would have been allowed to post it on his website if it was.

But who the hell knows! LOL Now I'm almost tempted to see this damn movie. Effing hype...

Actually, the one I posted wasn't fanart. It was erroneously labeled as fanart. (At least the bottom picture. The one of the smaller "Parasite")

It is from Neville Page's page, who is the person that was actually charged with designing the Cloverfield monster.

For the monster’s design, Abrams engaged veteran creature designer Neville Page, who had just finished creating characters for James Cameron’s upcoming “Avatar” (and is currently working on Abrams’ “Star Trek”).

As far as the big monster is concerned, the people on imdb have been going nuts about it, for months. That pic that you posted has been brought up, many times, but they also have speculated on about 5 other creations from the conceptart website. In the end, you're right, none of us know. From the trailer shot that shows the legs, between the buildings, I'd definitely say that there is a tail or back-section, though, that's bigger than the bi-pedal centaur(ish) picture.

Dunno, but I can't freakin wait to find out. Haha.
