Hehe, although this is entertaining, probably wrong section?

I've never had pet mice, but my friends have had some. Care for them is pretty straight forward. You need a tank, food, water bottle, stuff to put on the floor of the tank for them to talk on (gahhh can't think of the word right now), and some little toys, like a wheel and things of that sort. If you went to your local pet store, the employees there would be able to help you with no problems.

The main reason why I never wanted one is because they don't live very long.

Rats are better. They are bigger, so they're... I don't know, easier to bond to? I just prefer them, mainly for their size and shape.

I have to agree with this. Rats are also less likely to bite. Rats are very social, and you should have more than one. They love being played with.

I agree with Rats being better pets. Mouse bites really hurt and, since they're so tiny, they are more afraid and therefor more likely to bite. Plus, Rats have hilarious balls.

^ "Hilarious balls." Always a good reason to get a pet.

I agree, bigger pets are better.

Especially when they have a silly beansack that drags behind them.

Mice and rats urinate wherever they go. They leave a trail of urine behind them. Rats especially stink. I have nothing against mice and rats, actually I don't think any animals should be kept in cages. Rats are very intelligent and need a lot of stimulation.

However, if you must get a little caged pet, a gerbil is much better than either. They are a desert animal and therefore conserve water = less pee. Their cages don't need to be cleaned nearly as often. They are cute and friendly if held a lot.

I've had mice, hamsters, gerbils and rats and a ferret for pets.

Of all of them I like the ferret. She's playful like a kitten and really quiet unless she wants out of her cage.

If you insist on mice don't get too many. A couple are good. Any more than that and you'll be cleaning the cage constantly.

^ Don't ferrets smell bad or something, supposedly?

      No.
But when you think about it any pet can end up smelling bad.

Someone told me something about ferrets a while ago that turned me off of them. I think it was smell, I dunno. Then again maybe that person never gave their ferrets baths or something.

Hey LDhippie, why don't you get like a really huge lizard or something? That's cooler than mice or rats, I think.

I agree with Moonbeam, gerbils make better rodent pets than mice or rats. They are fun little guys!

      My ferret doesn't smell.
But upon further contemplation her cage is lined with cedar shavings and that's what she smells like. Cedar shavings = non stinky pets?
