      Good Documentaries

Hey guys I'm a real big fan of documentaries, and i was just wondering if anyone here knows of any good documentary movies, or series. I am kinda looking for more obscure documentaries. So none of the more known stuff like An inconvenient Truth, or stuff by michael moore, or other ones that were majorly advertised.

For the sake of me being a Metallica fan, and just to stay on topic of what you want, watch Some Kind Of Monster. I hate that song, and most of St. Anger, but still, you must watch it.
Lost sig pic so lucid count goes here.

Ickarus. I presnt to you a documentary, not allowed to be shown in theaters. I present you Zeitgeist. http://tvokay.com/movie/zeitgeist.htm

There are 3 parts. 1st Explains religion, 2nd twin towers conspiracy, and 3rd explains the Rockefeller families plan to take over the world.

Metal: A Headbanger's Journey covers metal music history, metal culture, really everything. Everything from interviews with black metal musicians about satanism, to two, yes two interviews with Dio. Worth checking out whether you like metal or not.

You know I heard St. Anger was really good, i don't know why i haven't seen it yet, probably just forgot about, reminding me about that movie.

Zeitgeist and Rock School I will definitly check those out, thanks guys, if you think of any more let me know.

Mrbeezly I already seen Metal: A Headbangers Journey. you're right it is a really good documentary. For those of you here haven't seen it, follow mrbeezly's suggestion, and watch this documentary. It rocks...the pun was intended.

If it doesn't ruin the experience of the movie at all, why wasn't it allowed in theaters, because of the topics it explores?? I'm always interested in hearing conspiracy theories so this should be interesting. thanks.

I think I saw that a while ago on VH1. I really liked it.

I just watched King of Kong and was pretty well entertained. I just could not believe the people in that movie, and how serious they take the competition.

I found this some time ago. I hope you like.
      http://www.bodocus.com/

I also liked What the bleep do we know, The perverts guide to cinema, there are more, I just don't remember them.
You could also try and look at some of the videos on TED.com. They are not documetaries, but it's close enuogh.

Edit: This is quite cool as well. It gives you a good simple explanation of modern physics The Elegant Universe.

Also worth checking out is The Aristocrats, named after the joke. It was produced by Penn Jillette, who is a certified bad ass and hilarious dude so it's got that going for it. Plus the list of comedians in the movie is amazing, just check out the cast list. If you haven't seen the movie, you should; if you've never heard or told the joke, well I just don't know what to think about you as a person.

I highly recommend Lords of Dogtown which chronicles the rise of skateboarding in the US in the 70s. Very nostalgic for me, since I was actually skateboarding in the 70s.

For a serious suggestion: Supersize Me.

Are you talking about Lords of Dogtown or Dogtown and the Z-boys?
I'm pretty sure lords of dogtown is the movie and Dogtown and the z-boys is the documentary, i could be wrong though.

You've probably seen it, but Grizzly Man is unreal. For music movies, the all time champion is Stop Making Sense. If you haven't seen Bill Moyers' interviews with Joseph Campbell, The Power of Myth, filmed at George Lucas's Skywalker Ranch, that's a must see. For unnarrated documentaries of humanity, try Baraka and Koyaniskatsi. Also, just trawl PBS's site for NOVA--from recent episodes, I recommend Ape Genius.

Actually I've seen both, and both are good. You're correct, Lords is more of a reenactment.

Thank you sir, it was not in my bookmarks yet. I just watched Born Rich, which I'd heard about somewhere, possibly DV, but it was pretty fascinating--my main impression is that all these rich kids are just people in an odd situation, which is to say just people

Heh, I've waited on him and his girlfriend (his girlfriend a few times). I make a great celebrity waiter because it always takes me an hour to realize I should know who this person is His girlfriend is very cool, but he was kind of clueless about food. He was a little bit of a dick, but I think he just isn't comfortable in a "fancy" place.

Upon you bringing that up, I had to search the internet and watch it. It really made Billy Mitchel shine in an unfair light, completely taking Steve Wiebe's side. It was a little weird, but entertaining to say the least.

Well Billy Mitchell was a complete ass in the movie. I had laugh at all the ridiculous comments he made throughout the film. The guy is just so full of himself. It was definitly a good movie though.

Yeah, I don't like Billy Mitchell after seeing this movie.. but then again, you can't draw an opinion on someone just because of a movie...

For anyone who is interested, here is a site with lots of links to free documentaries:
      http://www.moviesfoundonline.com/documentaries.php

As for my personal favorites, here are two:
      "Exposed: The Climate of Fear"
      "The Great Global Warming Swindle"
They are concerning global warming. Specifically, they challenge the popular notions that humans are the cause of global warming and that the results of this global warming are potentially catastrophic. At the very least, they will make you think.
