Thread: Just got GTA IV!!

Oh man, that sucks. I'm getting it tomorrow morning, waking up at 6:30am and my buddies picking me up at like 8 to go to the mall and get it, even though they don't open till 9. Just want to make sure I get a copy, since I didn't preorder it....

Yeah I'm gonna try and go at midnight tonight, just to be sure.

So I just asked my roommate if he'd front me the $40 I need for the midnight release and he was like hell yeah, as long as I can play.

Then he walked out the door to go to his girlfriend's.

He had the cash in his hands.

I got it about 2 hours ago. I played Free Roam with my buddy for 2 hours.

I don't know quite what the think about it yet. It's fun... the shooting is quite fun too.

The driving though, feels like you are constantly crashing. A little too realistic. I always liked the arcadey feel of GTA's driving, but now it feels like the car controls are clunky and a little bit slow. Then again, I'm kind of tired, and I might have to get used to it.

And for anyone who gets it, there IS NO main menu. If you want to access multiplayer, Up on the D pad to get to your phone.

I got it 5 days ago, my boss got it 10 days before release.

Don't have it - don't know if I will get it either.

I always buy these games, play them for a couple of hours then they sit in the pile with the rest...

Eh, Adam, this ones a tad bit different.

There's just too much content in this game. The single player itself takes quite a heap of time to complete, and once you get used to the driving and control style, it's addictive as all hell. Give it a whirl Adam, I think you'll find you are quite pleased.

Ha ha...don't feel bad, I may not get it until next week. Car troubles have my entertainment income tied up in a repair bill that is leaving me penny pinching. I am going to try to rent it today on my Blockbuster Gamepass though, so I can keep it as long as I want until I can purchase it.

It was just me and my buddy. You spawn close to each other in the beginning, and technically you can just run away from your friends, but thats fucking stupid. When you die, you spawn somewhat near them.

Me and him were just exploring the city, and we spawned right next to each other. I grab a car, he grabs a gun, and we go on a drive-by shooting rampage... The multiplayer is really really cool because instead of dropping you into what FEELS like multiplayer, it still feels like the bustling city of the single player, except you're playing a team game.

Realism is really gameplay wise. As far as I know, I haven't been shot yet to tell you (I'm just that good), you don't "drip blood". Building don't blow up, there aren't floods or anything like that, but the rain is incredibly detailed.

The first time I got arrested, I got on my knees, hands behind my head, etc etc...

You can't appear on the radio or anything like that.. but the overwhelming amount of CONTENT in this game is ridiculous.

I've played the single-player for 2:29:30 right now. That's 2 hours, not two days (obviously) and I've been trailed off so many times. The game really opens up to you.

I'll give an example, don't worry, no major plot spoilers...

In the second or third "mission" of the game, you drive a girl you know and her friend home. You get the friend's phone number, and you eventually go out on a date with her. You go bowling. You actually play bowling, like a 5 frame game, and you take her back home. From there, you have the option to call her whenever you like, to set up a date, cancel a pre-arranged date, or SHE will even call YOU to set up a date.

I can even go back (anytime I want) and play bowling. There's numerous amounts of little thigns to do. In your apartment (which is the very first place you arrive) has a television. There's about 10 channels that have hours and hours of programming to watch on there. Theres 18 radio stations, each with a different style of music....

When you hit someone with your car (I hit a pedestrian), the blood actually splatters onto your bumper. Losing your wanted stars is much better now, because there's a sort of "zone" which is more or less a circle on your mini-map, and you have to escape from the en-circled portion of the map, and try to lose the cops.

Uh... what else.... Driving is fucking.. realistic. Trust me, it takes an hour to really really get used to the driving. No more 70 mph clean turns. Trust me.

Back to that date thing. I tried to call the girl to set up a date (didn't know what time it was) and she picked up the phone, said she was sleeping, and told me to call her back around 6 in the morning. I never really took a game that seriously, that calling someone in the early morning hours would actually matter... because it's a game. Regardless, I eventually had that date with her (I had to go pick her up an hour and a half later) and we went and shot pool at the pool hall.

Besides that, there are many places you can go with your friends, such as the pool hall, strip club, stand up comedy shows, play darts, go bowling, etc etc etc. You have to keep good relationships with your friends, to ensure they return your calls, etc etc.

All in all, it's a few subtle things, and the overwhelming large amount of content in GTA IV that makes it feel more like an EXPERIENCE than a game. Trust me guys, this game is worth far more than $60.00. I would've paid double.

Lucky you all, I have no ps3, or a hdtv so that means no gta4 for me

PS3 SUCKS for GTA IV. Definatley Xbox 360. I"m not saying it because I love my Xbox, it's just that...

1.) 8 Minute mandatory install which takes up harddrive space
2.) Sixasis controls suck
3.) PSN isn't doing so well handling the servers.

2 WHAT??!?! the original gta was BORN on that style of remote...

1.) It takes up space that you shouldn't need to and it depletes space you need for saved games, music, etc etc.

2.) Actually, GTA was born on PC... and the "controller" you're thinking of is actually the PS2 Dualshock 2. The Sixasis Controller is Sony's pathetic excuse for an attempt at motion sensing controls, and they don't work.

3.) Xbox 360's servers are handling it fine, PS3 is struggling.

1) buy a bigger HD

2) oh yea...well we all like different things right? i love the ps2/ps3 controller

3) xbox MP is payed for monthly by the user, ps3's is free

money = better mp

free = slower mp

PS3 should have the option of paying for mp, for faster mp

or free, for the cheap people who don't mind lag.

you people and your slower processing 360's are going to be crying when some REALLY good designed games are released for the ps3 fully utilizing the power of the cell processor, then we'll see who's a 360 fanboy

Really? It's amazing how so many people played all the way through games like Warhawk (in which the flight-controls are completely dependent upon six-axis - control which also got great reviews) with controls that don't work. Huh. Will wonders never cease?

wow really? good thing I decided to not buy a 360 after all and get a ps3 one of these days.
