I usually never do this, but I feel it's necessary.
In Bruges was, without a doubt, one of the best films I have ever seen.
I heard Colin Farrell and comedy and I was skeptical, but having seen the trailer on HD Net's Ultimate Trailer Show(or Trailerama, idk) I really wanted to see it.
It's quickly obvious why it got a limited release here, as sharp little anti-American digs are plentiful... there are some really offbeat bits in general.
The dialogue is absolutely brilliant, and some(but definitely not all) of the best comedic bits come in places you wouldn't expect.
Delicious cinematography, drifting through day & night and rain & shine in the old world European city, everything shot on location in beautiful Belgium.
Interesting back and forth of laughs and stomach knotting unpleasantries.
Brendan Gleeson gave one of the best performances of his career(what little I know of it, but I've always really liked him)
Roger Ebert said this about it, and I feel it fits perfectly...
"This film debut by the theater writer and director Martin McDonagh is an endlessly surprising, very dark, human comedy, with a plot that cannot be foreseen but only relished."
Despite what the theatrical poster seems to say, this is not an action movie. It is a great black comedy/drama with some action involved.
Enjoy!
:peace:
