      The Butterfly Effect

Just saw this movie yesterday on TV! Thumbs up for Ashton Kutcher playing a serious role, and doing it great.

I definitely recommend this movie to those who haven't seen it.

Goes into my list of favourite movies... Which now consists of two movies.

      Donnie Darko
      The Butterfly Effect

So far I haven't seen any other movies that really give me a lasting impression. I know, I need to see more good movies.

Anyway, for those who have seen it before, discuss!

I'm going to have to be a party pooper and say i thought it was terrible. It all just seemed kind of pointless to me. I mean what was the movie trying to say? Maybe i need to see it again.

Yep.. I really enjoyed it too! It was cool seeing the alternate ending as well.

Yeah, I liked it too. But don't bother with the second one.

I don't know if there was a 100% message, but maybe it was that no matter how hard you'd try to change the future to make it better, it doesn't mean it will be better you'll always have a butterfly effect.

What was the alternate ending? Is it where he goes back and kills himself as a baby by wrapping the umbilical chord around his throat?

The amazing thing about this ending is that his mother had 2 or 3 failed pregnancies before the main character's.

Makes us think what if those babies went on to live a life, discover they could go back in time and change their lives, end up messing up things too much for others and kill themselves to fix it all.

I was pleasantly surprised by it. And indeed, if you like it, you probably also like Donnie Darko. Both are awesome.

Haven't seen other movies that leave a lasting impression? Geez...

Try Boondock Saints and Requiem for a Dream, for starters.

I never saw the 2nd Butterfly Effect but I heard it sucked ass, it looked like it would also. The first though was incredible I think. I believe I did see that alternate ending, or maybe read about it somewhere.

Butterfly Effect and Donnie Darko are two of the best movies ever!

there's actually 3 endings to the film

the original ending, where Evan commits suicide in the womb was changed for the American theatrical showings
2 alternative endings were shot with Evan surviving (haven't seen them, so I don't know exactly how this happens)

The original ending was put back for the theatrical showings in other counties, as well as the DVD release

it kind of annoys me how an ending as powerful as that is changed because of some whiny people who complain at the preview showings, but anyhow....

I know, horrible isn't it? I'm not really part of the mainstream crowd when it comes to music or games but for movies I tend to see overhyped crappy ones most of the time. I'll have a look at those movies, thanks.

I just saw the suicide in the womb ending on youtube. I like it better than the 'original', too bad they didn't use that one for the tv broadcast.

That's probably because you're watching all the ones that are coming out NOW. I don't watch movies in theatres anymore because of that reason. It's all about originals.

Yeah it is a good film, I must admit. It's weird what you say about the ending as I watched it on dvd ages ago and he died at the end. They didn't change that part.

It wasn't altered for the UK cinema showings, only US

It falls into the category of "Makes you think" movies.

      Or just, clever movies.

Like, The Prestige, Donnie Darko, SAW, Memento, Requiem for a Dream.
