I've been watching this game ever since they've announced it, so I'll have all your answers.
I've wanted this game when they said the words "Valve" and "Zombies" in the same sentence.
So is it a squad game?
Four person online co-operative. In Versus mode, it's four survivors versus four player controlled boss zombies.
Is there a single player?
Yes, you can play it offline with the other three characters being controlled by bots. It's essentially the same online as it is offline, only with bots instead of actual people. There's no single player story mode or anything, just the four main maps.
A lot of people are easily confused by the single-player and multi-player/co-op of the game.
Also, think of the bots as the Counter-Strike: Source bots but x100 smarter.
Edit: Each Game Mode is the same in a sense...
Single Player: 1 Human Controlled Survivor(You); 3 Bot Survivors; and 5 Boss Infected Bots.
Co-op: Total of 4 Human Controlled Survivors(Any non-human survivors are bots); and 5 Boss Infected Bots.
Multiplayer: Total of 4 Human and 4 Boss Infected players (Any non-human survivors or boss infected are bots).
Here's some info about the Boss Infected:
Boomer - You seem him at the very beginning of the video. It's hard to spot, but half of him is laying up against a wall. Bill (old veteran) touches some of his slime, Francis (biker) makes a comment on it. The Boomer is this fat infected guy who vomits on you causing hordes of infected (or zombies if you want to call them that) to come straight for you, it also disrupts your vision for awhile.
Witch - Probably the most deadly boss infected of them all. You can hear her cries from afar, and when you do, lights out, and don't make a sound. She runs insanely fast, and can take you down instantly.
Smoker - You see the smoker grab Bill will a long tounge. The Smoker's tounge is 50 feet long...so watch out. He also emits smoke when he wants, and when he dies. You can see the smoke come after he gets shot by Francis.
Hunter - A ninja like infected. You seem him jumping across the buildings when Louis (black guy) runs out into the streets yelling at the helicopter. He can pounce really far, and when he pins you, he tears you to shreds!
Tank - A beast of an Infected. As you saw in the video after Louis gets pinned by the Hunter, then gets helped by Zoey (only girl) only to cause the car alarm to go off causing thousands of Infected to run after them, the Tank appears throwing a car and smashing anything that gets in it's way. In the actual game, the Tank has a bar that if it runs out before you start attacking the Survivors, you die.
There are a total of 5 Boss Infected. 4 of which can be played by people. The only types of Infected that can not be played by people are the normal infected, and the Witch.
I thought for the Tank, it was if the survivors aren't in your eyesight for too long, you lose control of the tank and it becomes bot-controlled and you respawn as one of the other boss infected?
Regardless, this is the only video game I've actually been excited about since like GTA:SA. I actually cannot wait for this game, I check the l4d411 site like a hundred times a day just to tide myself over while I wait for it, and play Zombie Master or Zombie Panic! Source while I wait.... This is the only video game I care about anymore, nothing else really interests me anymore....
I wish there was like a storyline, too, but I guess zombie games have been done to death and a storyline would be pointless.
Still, I was thiking about Star Wars: Republic Commando and I'd love to see a good squad system with commands and stuff. This game doesn't seem styled for that, though, it seems more like an evolved form of a classic online fps.
FUKING awesome this game is like a dream come god dammed true! When the release date? Fucking brilliant!
I haven't heard about the scribbling on the walls, but I do know that I think it was Mike Booth or Gabe Newell who said that there is no back-story to the game. You don't ever find out what caused the infected to become infected, you don't get any story from the characters, you're just thrown into this world where zombies are running rampant and you have to get out.
Personally, I kind of like the idea of having like no story, I don't really care where the infected came from, all I care is that I'm blowing the shit out of zombies and trying to get out of the infected cities to safety. It's a like Counter-Strike's idea, no real story, just great co-operative play.
Yeah, you're right, the early access demo comes out on the sixth, and the public access demo is on the eleventh. Also, I heard that boutique shops such as GameStop or EB Games would have the full game on the 17th, a day before regular shops like Future Shop, Wal-Mart, etc, but I'm not entirely sure.Quote:
People who pre-order the game gets the demo early which I think comes out on the 6th.
I believe the demo comes out for everyone on the 11th or maybe later.
The actual game comes out on the 18th which is all you need to know.
I love the twitchy style of combat shown. I've been looking forward to it as well... I'm a zombie kind of guy, even to go as far as prepping for an outbreak back where I used to live. (Concern is minimal where I am now.) So being able to play through an infection will be awsome!
Question... Is there some sort of explosive enemy or something? Many zombie related games I've played like to use those.
Last I heard, they didn't. They said it's a good way to take down survivors, to get a Boomer into the middle of a small room with the survivors, and if any one shoots it, all the survivors are going to be on their asses pretty much. They also said that he can jump off of large buildings, and he'll explode one the ground below kind of like dropping bombs on the survivors. And if his blood gets on you, it attracts more zombies to you.
Slayer, are you getting L4D for the PC or 360? If you're getting it for the PC, you can add me on Steam and we'll get a game going. That goes for anyone who's getting it. I preordered, so I get the demo tomorrow right after school.... My Steam is NYSin if anyone wants to get a game going sometime tomorrow.
Me as well, Bayside. For anyone. I'm getting it for PC and would like to play with DVers rather than random people. My Steam name is MrHalf_Baked.
I'm pre-loading it right now! Where are there details of the demo so I can give myself something to do while I wait?
I'm getting it for PC.
I may be getting it tonight, or tomorrow. But my 360 just got 3 red rings last night...so I'm going to have to call up microsoft and see what I need to do about it...
