What Anime Movies Should I Watch?

I've never really watched them but figured I should watch a few and decide if I'm into it.

Open-minded to new forms of entertainment, you know?

I like political undertones. Those are cool.

I don't want something where I need to understand some cannon or anime troupes to get. So a movie that stands independantly.

I'm looking for something without any hen-tai or more than implied sex scenes. I think that with cartoons it's strange...

I saw 'Ken-Toa and the Wolf Brigade.' I liked it even though it made no sense until the third time through. But it had a good style of drama. It wasn't forced or overdone, but the drama was definitley the driver of the movie. I like that kind of drama.

Action is cool and if it's action I'd like uniquely choregraphed fight scenes or one's that have a styalized realism. I'd like to watch something deeper than just action, though...

What would be a few good movies?

Anything by Miyazaki. (That's Hiyao Miyazaki btw) I kid you not when I say that anything done by him is AMAZING.

There's another movie I enjoyed that has great action; Sword of the Stranger. Not much choreography (at least to me. You might see otherwise as I'm not really knowledgeable in fighting scenes), but a LOT of slicing, gushing blood, and decapitating. If you can get past that, the movie has a very nice cast, good story, and great animation and music.

The only thing I'll say about the plot is this; Tobimaru is IMMORTAL. Hopefully you'll see what I mean.

Also, the xxxHolic movie; xxxHolic: A Midsummer Night's Dream (AKA Manatsu no Yoru no Yume). I'm not sure if it's one of those movies that's injected in between the Anime series or not, but it didn't feel like it, as the main character explains enough of the story for you to not be 100% in the dark. It's very funny, but also dark, and it does tend to give you a dream feeling from time to time. Overall, very good.

I've probably watched others, but these are the most notable. If you want a full list of Miyazaki's stuff, I can give that to you as well.

Unfortunately, I don't know any exact location as to where you can watch these, because I saw both xxxHolic and SOTS in my school's Anime Club, and I watched the Miyazaki movies on TV and on DVD. But I'm sure you can find them on any streaming site.

I would never start an anime club at my school because all the kids who like anime are freaking stupid and they smell...

Edit: And I too would like to know good anime movies. I plan on having a day where I do nothing but watch anime and try to have an anime dream.

Ah, the joy that is our Anime Club.

Unfortunately, we lost all of our knowledgeable members my Freshmen year. (They were all Seniors.) Now our Club leader is a Senior this year, and all the members now are either Juniors that are knowledgeable enough (I'm probably the most), or Freshmen that LOVE imitating Goku and Itachi.

But the things we watch are great. If we watch anymore movies, I'll let you know. Our Leader is great at finding good things to watch.

Merlock, if you are very good with torrent information, can you help understand WHY I can't download them?!!? It makes no sense!!! It's like I'm missing a file or something. I already downloaded Bittorent, but it does NOTHING but play the audio of what I want to watch.. Help, please?

Well, the end of your post relays a different problem from the beginning so, first...

What problem exactly do you have?
Can you not download torrented files at all?
Or do you download them (100%) and then are unable to play them properly?

If it's the latter, download VLC player. It's the only player you'll need to play any video content from torrents (torrented files are compressed into various video formats and require codecs to play). Well, I've only ran across a video it couldn't play once...though its general idea is that it doesn't use codecs (lack of which are causing you to only hear audio).

I linked to the player's Wikipedia page because the official site is down at the moment I'm posting this for some reason. But I'm sure you can find alternative download locations somewhere, including torrents, hahah.

Anything released on DVD and sold in stores is never released on official sites...

I don't know about series since they are shown on public TV but movies, such as those shown in cinemas and sold on DVDs would never be displayed for free by the very people that make money by selling them.

It's a random site that has no official affiliation with anyone...at all.

Like I said, I don't know the copyright laws that affect TV shows but movies are all sold in stores and shown in cinemas. They're commercial products and you either pay for them or -- if you aren't paying -- download it illegally.

I find that Veoh is a great site to watch videos on. Anyway, while you may not understand alot of what is going on, I would suggest watching the Bleach Movie "Memories of Nobody" or "Diamond Dust Rebellion". Both are from the anime series Bleach, but I think you might like them regardless.

PAPRIKA...thats all you need to know for now, don't bother with any other anime movie until you have seen this one, because you will end up comparing every other one to this one.

make sure you watch it a few times too. You will enjoy it more each time, and when you're done you will understand why forums like this exist.

also, you can use alluc.org they have a pretty hefty anime section and it just leads to the videos on veoh, megavideo, ect.

Because of that social stigma attached to anime, I don't reveal my love for it :O

I like a movie called Princess Mononoke. It's really trippy with forest spirits and giant wolves. In fact, I haven't seen it in awhile. I think I'll go look it up.

Yeah you can't go wrong with Miyazaki. SOme of the other movies by his company suck balls but his shit is gold.

And sword of the stranger has horrible music, and the ending makes you feel a little robbed, but it's absolutely BALLER.

I also recommend Vexille, though it's graphic animation and not exactly manga-styled anime, it has good political undertones.

Oh yeah, and Appleseed ex Machina is a sick movie, too. I prefer the sequel.

If you like movies like that, Ghost in the Shell is also pure gold.

I'm also a big fan of the Neon Genesis: Evangelion movie
