      Exclamation Need More Music!

Basically I'm a huge music junkie, but the number of albums that I find truly incredible is very small at the moment... I was hoping that by making this a few of you other audiophiles out there might be able to suggest some related stuff that I just haven't come across yet. Ta muchly.

      Here's my all time favourites so you can get some kind of a clue;

The Stone Roses, The Stone Roses
      (http://www.last.fm/music/The+Stone+R...he+Stone+Roses)
This one blows me away... there are two things I really love in music. The first is pure melody, and this is just so full of incredible hooks... the second is the sound, and I love that too (both the jangle pop and the heavier production).

      Abbey Road, The Beatles
      Exactly the same thing really.

      Sgt Pepper, The Beatles
And again. The more experimental bits are another highlight, such as A Day in the Life.

      Revolver, The Beatles
Largely for TNK... it's such an insane trip.

      Loveless, My Bloody Valentine
      (http://www.last.fm/music/My+Bloody+Valentine/Loveless)
Probably my favourite album ever. Incredibly beautiful, this thing just washes over me and all your worries dissolve in the haze... if somebody can show me where to get anything else remotely like this I'd be so happy.

Well, that's it for now; I'll put individual some songs up later. For now, just post away with any suggestions.

You realize that none of that shit is anything like the albums that he mentioned, right?

Here are some real suggestions. Several of them are somewhat less guitar-centric than the bands that you mentioned, but they're all pretty similar in terms of emphasis on melody, focus on studio production and overall feel. Plus all but two of them are highly critically acclaimed (mainly because the remaining two are pretty new).

Electric Light Orchestra - A New World Record
Electric Light Orchestra - Out Of The Blue
The Flaming Lips - The Soft Bulletin
The Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots
      Ambulance Ltd. - Ambulance Ltd.
      The Webb Brothers - Maroon
      Radiohead - OK Computer

I second the Panda Bear suggestion, but I'm not familiar enough with The Stone Roses to be of much help.

      -Cocteau Twins, maybe?
-Jaga Jazzist also have fantastic hooks, very melodic, though not so rock-oriented as the bands in your list.
      -Harmonium for something lighter
      -Caravan

Sure, although there are some things I don't really like at all (mainly metal which I think is a bit of a joke... get some talent guys).

Thanks for all the stuff so far, I'll listen to it...

I should probably point out that I've listened to half of it already though... I love Pink Floyd (DSOTM and WYWH especially; urgently need to listen to the Syd Barret stuff some time) and I've really gotten into Radiohead in these last few weeks (favourite song at the moment is probably The Bends, it's incredible; No Surprises, Paranoid Android, and Fake Plastic Tree are a few more). Oh, and the Who, too (Who's Next is my fav).

I've got Heaven or Las Vegas from the Cocteau Twins; anything else from them I could try? I've got Yoshimi from the Flaming Lips too and it's nice, but I've only ever listened to snippets of The Soft Bulletin... it's supposed to be a classic but I found it a bit inaccessible. I'll try it again.

Other stuff I like includes David Bowie (my favourite song ever could well be Heroes), The Kinks (actually my favourite song ever is probably Waterloo Sunet), The Rolling Stones, and U2 (Achtung Baby is brilliant).

      Moar.

Yeah. Mike really needs some talent. Especially 4 minutes in.

But yeah, I agree, most of metal is a joke.

good job. You still should check out The Islands. They are sort of like Modest Mouse, but much more upbeat. The lyrics should speak to you too when you decipher them.

Woaaaaaah... I'm guessing nobody's listened to this thing or somebody'd've posted it. 'Cos it's great, exactly what I was looking for (everybody's heard There She Goes before I hope but the other tracks are just as good; The Feeling, Timeless Melody, I Can't Sleep, Way Out... pretty much as good as the Beatles I reckon).

      Any more ideas? :V

I might have missed something here, where's the lack of talent? Yeah, there's tons of crappy metal bands out there, but you can say the same thing for any genre. I almost guarantee you haven't heard metal like links 7 and 8 before.

hell yeah, I found this old school video of theres. not my favorite song of theres by far, but still a good watch anyhow. The dancers and the tripped out backgrounds are much more futuristic than anything done these days.
