      of Mice and Men

Has anyone read this book? I just read it lately, it has to be most likely one of my favorite books, it's so emotional and has so many layers to it.
      Spoiler for ending spoiler:

      Such a great book.

I just had to read it for English class. It starts off boring, but it ends up great!

I read it back in High School. Don't remember much of it, really, besides what happens in the ending.

We read it our junior year in high school, and watched the movie too.

saw the movie a long time ago....then it was required reading in one of my high school English classes....then I saw the movie again...and that's when I almost cried....

great story, and Steinbeck's a great writer, and his work is truly, very deep

Is that the book where that retarded guy is accused of killing a little girl, so he blows his brains out?

Uh, no it's the story of a man who is mentally challenged (Lennie) and a man who becomes his caretaker (George) and after Lennie accidentally murders a woman, because he has the mind of a child but is EXTREMELY strong, George realizes he can no longer protect lenny from society and the law and kills Lennie.

      actually, YES

mentally challenged = retarded (in layman's terms, hey~ some people are just too lazy to use the medical terms)

he kills a girl, but she wasn't little....she was just a fully blossomed smoking vixen who unfortunately died due to something really stupid (but the emotion was very real)

you'd have to watch the movie if you haven't already

but yes, volcon also sums it up, but in a politically correct manner

Don't watch the movie, READ THE BOOK!

It's great. It's one of the few books in existence that made me fully break down.

And let's not get into the "which word is better" debate. It gets you nowhere.

I just finished watching the movie. It was great, except I didn't like the ending. It seemed emotionless.

We're analyzing it in my English class at school right now. I liked the book, it's length makes it an easy read, but it's really powerful; I cried at the end, it was really emotional, like the ending to Where the Red Fern grows. I'm surprised it could draw me in so well through so few words, though; normally the book needs to be longer to really hit home. Steinbeck is a wonderful author.
