"Twilight" copies "Let The Right One In"

John Ajvide Lindqvit's "Let The Right One In" was written a year before "Twilight" (Both books about a juvenile vampire who makes friends with a regular kid). Twilight even stole a catch phrase from the Swedish novel "I've been so-many-years-old for a long time"

Then, they made the movie for "Let The Right One In" before "Twilight" came out and it even scored 98% on rottentomatoes.com compared to the lousy 44% that "Twilight" scored.

It makes me sick to my stomach that such a book and movie can be ripped off of something in Sweden.

Stephenie Meyers can go take her book and shove it.

...I just got news that the director of CloverField is now directing a remake of Let The Right One In for Americans. What a bunch of BS.

The stories are actually quite different.

Yes a young person meets a vampire falls in love, but other than that they're different.
Låt den rätte komma in is a vampire horror romance, Twilight is straight up loser emo romance. It doesn't even follow basic vampire code.
I doubt Meyers even knew this book existed when she wrote Twilight. I don't think Mormons are allowed to import entertainment from Europe. It's too forward thinking for them.

And don't worry about the remake, it will suck, but people who actually care about the validity of cinema and film, such as myself, will stick with the original.

It does make me sick that a shitty film/story such as Twilight went on to make $70m in the first week it was released and whenever I mention Låt den rätte komma in to anyone and they tell me to watch "real movies" and things along that line.

yes, but the author of Twilight undeniably read the Swedish book, as its most prominent peice of dialogue was stolen from it. Not to mention that Let The Right One In has lots of silence which Twilight undeniably tried to recreate.

I would feal like a complete idiot if I were a Twilight fan reading this. haha. I would feal like a complete moron if I was a Twilight fan at all.

You honestly can't claim any form of plagiarism based on "lots of silence" or a line of dialogue.

Many books and films have similar lines of dialogue. It doesn't mean they were ripped off one another.

"This is my 21st birthday. For the fourth time"
      "I turned 30 again today"
      "I'm 35 going on 43"

All of these come to mind and they're essentially the same. These two just have Vampiric undertones so one is construed as ripping off the other, when chances are it's purely coincidence.

Or possibly it was an homage to the book?

Quentin Tarantino and many other directors and authors pepper their work with homages to their favorite works.

These "homages" are essentially ripped off from the source, but it's done "lovingly", so it's not considered a dick move.

no, the context of that line of dialogue was much rarer than you made it seem. Its exactly the same word for word except for the age.

Its not a quincidence that a very well known swedish writer gets his ideas stolen and then tampered with by a mormon writer to make it more "appropriate" for horn toad teenagers in America.

There is not a doubt in my mind.

Theres also a lot of influence from an old TV show called "Vampire High." Twilight is far from original. It has ripped off ideas, dialogue, names and situations from a multitude of other sources. It's ripped off parts from other stories and smashed them all together. The movie was even worse. It honestly looked and sounded like something a Comm Tech student came up with for their high school project.

I just want to point out that that "catch phrase" is only so in the Twilight movie trailer. ..... That's it.

I watched like half of Let the Right One In last night, and it was friggin' amazing. Not a movie-theater type of movie for me, but really good to watch at home.

But the two movies/books are like night and day to me. Watching one, I'm far from reminded of the other. The only thing they have in common is the word "vampire," but even the concept of a vampire is completely different in the two.

I watched "let the right one in" like a week ago, most of it anyway. It was quite interesting, but it was kind of depressing in a way.

From what I have heard Twilight is a diffrent kind of movie, it focuses far more on romance then "Let the right one in" does, let the right one in shouldn't even really be considered romance, since their is hardly any in it.

Let The Right One In was amazing. It did get romantic, and the performances were amazing. Probably the best movie I have seen all year.

No movie has a cooler ending than this one. Its an artsy film, but not so that its abstract or unbelievable.

I can't even describe this movie with words. I came out of the theater completely moved.

The acting is more down to earth than anything else I've seen.

I didn't think it was depressing, it was actually very hopeful. I felt so good after watching this movie. 2 hours long...really long, but completely submersed the whole entire time.

Twilight doesn't have a thing on this movie. Its a masterpiece.

The issue of which movie is better is completely different... I thought you were talking about how one copies the other! I don't think anyone would disagree with you in regard to which one is better... not even die-hard Twilight fans.

it is in swedish, but luckily the script is very minimal, but poetic and full of emotion and things happening.
