The Old School Hip Hop Thread

Here you can share your favorite Old School Hip Hop Tracks, Artists, Albums, etc.

Rule #1: Only Old School Hip Hop. In this thread that means nothing from 2000 and beyond. 1999 and before is cool.

Rule #2: Only Hip Hop. Don't post about why you think Hip Hop is garbage and why whatever the fuck you listen to is so much better. No one gives a shit. And if you really think they do, go make your own thread about it. This also means no R&B, Jazz, etc. Just because there are black people in it doesn't make it Hip Hop.

The majority of music I listen to is Hip Hop, but the Hip Hop scene today is 90% garbage. I can't listen to most of it, so I turn back to the good old days.

A Tribe Called Quest:
Busta's Lament
Clap Your Hands
God Lives Through

Run DMC:
Down With the King

Naughty By Nature:
Hip Hop Hooray
OPP

House of Pain:
Jump Around

Nas:
Nas is Like
The World is Yours

Meh, I'll come up with more later

I know, right??! Shit. You think you know a girl, and she just bursts out with the racial profiling! *Channels Jesse Jackson* I am vehemently and utterly appalled by this injustice! Such discriminatory remarks are surely a sign that these are still times of blatant inequality and gross mis-characterization, even by our peers!

Ha. Just kidding. I'll be back with some in a lil bit.

Me and a few others recorded what a very raw hip hop song at the nicest studio here in utah. It was written off this guitar part I made up. Everything was done with real instruments. The guy who raps is very good. We all went to the same school and teamed up to make this.

enjoy. haha

Did you not read the rules?

Only Old School hip hop that predates the turn of the millenium.

Digable Planets-Flying High in the Brooklyn Sky
Featuring one of my favorite guitarists, Wah Wah Watson(seen in the avatar). I just realized part of his solo is cut off in this video. Fucking lame.

Tupac-Krazy
This is one of my favorite songs to smoke to.

Geto Boys-Still
Geto Boys-My Mind is Playing tricks on me
This was one of the first rap groups I ever came to really appreciate.

Are Gil Scott Heron or Jedi Mind Tricks against the rules? I think I'm gonna post some anyway, I mean Gil Scott did invent rap music and Jedi mind tricks is one of the few groups still making good shit.

157 is a prime number. The next prime is 163 and the previous prime is 151, which with 157 form a sexy prime triplet. Taking the arithmetic mean of those primes yields 157, thus it is a balanced prime.

Jedi Mind Tricks-Winds of War

It's not just hip-hip, 90% of music is garbage today. Most of the living groups I listen to are jazz groups and jam bands.

I agree, but I meant in music that gets played. The music that is represnetitive of the genre in the mind of the common man. Like when people think of rock music they think of groups like puddle of mud or avenged sevenfold. But I'm probably just to into instrumental music, which no one seems to listen to any more.

I think that good stuff you gotta look for only makes up 10%
