This documentary is not only eye-opening but hilarious as well. A stand-up comedian explores the world of religion and the funny characters behind the game.

Good Movie. Its a cult classic here in Utah...just a couple of blocks away from where he filmed his movie. Its too bad he missed the giant protest we did surrounding the mormon church and scaring the hell out of them.

Bump (it's better than making a new topic)

Saw the movie, liked it but I think he goes to far in his thinking. He is warning the people at the end for nuclear holocaust caused by religion.

In the 50's there was a paranoia in both russia and the United States. On tv, people were kept paranoid by warning commercials in theaters

      example:

      http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=Mg2jDllIutM

Both Russia and the US had nuclear arms but they didn't use them, why? Because the other country could strike back, it would only end worse than they started. Since the Nagasaki nuke, A-bombs haven't been used. Ok, the A-bomb is still young, it's only 60 years young but nuclear weapons won't be used in the future, it's plain stupidity and the US now even has hydrogen bombs. We only have to fear if a country thinks: "Ok, let's use a nuke, God is on our side so they won't strike back and we will win." But even the most fundamental leader thinks twice. To become the leader of a country, you can't be this retarded.

Bill Maher only shows the fundamentalist bastards but not the good believers. If you follow the spirit of a holy book and not litteraly what's in it, then you are a good believer. I don't believe but in Belgian Katholic schools we learn this principle. You have to choose carefully what you believe because many values are not from this time so you don't hang on to them. This is what's done wrong in many cases. People believe if they follow the rules of the Bible, that they get into heaven. Heaven is something made up to make people believe. When Jesus talks about heaven he means an utopia on earth, he wanted to shape the world into a perfect place to live. It's only in the centuries after Jesus that they started to abuse the bible and misinterpret it to gain power and wealth.

The film made me laugh but I disagree that religion is bad in all the cases.

The idea sounds entertaining, but I absolutely despise Bill Maher. I think he is a rotten, despicable troll. He is my least favorite of all celebrity entertainers. I have never seen a talk show host be anywhere near as rude to his guests or his audience as that asshole. He makes Keith Olbermann look like Aunt Bee.

Its hard to beat Bill O'Reily at that game. Bill Maher is never an ass, he just poses reasonable questions and never gets defensive.

It would make sense though, if you're a Conservative, or a christian/mormon, but instead of blowing this movie off, I would take what people are thinking into consideration. Even Bill came from a christian/jewish family (I believe), but he was one of many who quickly caught on to many of the religions crooked schemes and unjust laws.

But really, you can't completely agree with Bill. He is fully against religion while religion can just be a good ideology to bring order into your own life. He only seeks people who take their holy book literally ad then has his conclusion that religion has to be stopped. Fundamental religion has to be stopped because it's one big cult.

Bill Maher is just as ignorant as the fundies in his movies.

And still, I'm not a religious person, I'm an atheist!

I don't watch his HBO show, but I used to watch Politically Incorrect a lot. In the beginning, Bill was hilarious. It was a great show. Then the Monica Lewinsky scandal happened, and that situation made Bill no longer merely disagree with conservatives. He started to hate them on a very deep personal level. He would line his show up with three liberal guests and one conservative and have himself and the other three liberals gang up on the conservative with name calling, constant interruptions, laughing at them, and other humiliation tactics. Bill wouldn't just express opinions. He would often act completely humorless and say the most vile things imaginable against people who disagreed with him. He addressed his audience the same way, and he had an extreme look of hate in his eyes when he did it. He had become an absolutely terrible person.

Also, the coward needs to just come right out and admit that he is a left wing fanatic. He won't do that. Instead, he says he is a libertarian, which is of course a lie. I am 100% libertarian on everything but foreign policy, and I know that Bill Maher is nowhere near libertarian. Libertarians don't support Ralph Nader and John Edwards, for starters.

I agree with him on religion, so I am not offended by the movie. I just can't stand the jackass star of it.

It was hilarious. He raised some good points, and Bill claims to be an agnostic.

But DreamViews' discussions on Religion and Spirituality is faaaar ahead of the stuff Bill Maher says, so it can't really be used as an argument for or against anything, because most people have already been through those.

I had a slight problem with Bill Maher after seeing him on Craig Ferguson's show some years back. It was a rare time when Craig had to break and go to commercial early.

I hope this link works: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1zx2o9C12yo

I don't like the way he's talking to Christians. I mean some of them are being stubborn douches but others are quietly listening to what he has to say and responding with their point of view and he's just being pushy. That's not the way to reach these people.

Everything works out in the end, sometimes even badly.

lol, could you provide us with the example you speak of? every person he interviewed was completely ludicrous.

Most religions are one big cult. Jewish and Muslim religions in most of the world are that way, LDS, Mormonism, and even Christianity work like a cult. I don't get why they are offended by the word "cult" if they fit the very definition.

Ludicrous and douche represent two completely different things. Their opinions are ludicrous, but he's acting like a douche. He doesn't argue any apologists that have their shit together except that vatican astronomer. He argues random believers who don't even know as much about the bible as he does, and basically assaults their beliefs, and most of them are just trying to politely explain their beliefs while he has to put everything he says as a rude joke.

The whole movie is pointless. It doesn't say anything about christianity, it doesn't do anything to show christians their ideas are wrong. It offends christians so they'll be more entrenched in their beliefs and it bores atheists by beating a dead horse because he says nothing original and no one responds in an original way.

You want specific examples? How about the Jews for Jesus guy running that really expensive store who claimed that Jesus revealed himself by raining in his cup. Bill Maher just makes fun of him when he's earnestly describing the experiences that lead him to believe in Jesus. He never makes any attempt to understand the guy, just uses him as a vehicle to further his argument.

Everything works out in the end, sometimes even badly.

true, and its sad that he doesn't put the smack down on smarter people. I already know what I would say and have full proof arguments. I think they could have chosen someone much better for the arguing, but his was really good (except for pointing the finger at all religions (cuz I can think of one that isn't completely insane (Buddhism))).

I agree. I believe in God (not the commercialized God you read about) and I don't attend church regularly or try and get people to join my beliefs. I think a lot of religion is dumb because people are spoon-fed whatever the pastor's want to tell them. I think for myself with religion. He is just as bad as religious radicals - an atheist radical. But they are both religious radicals anyway so they are on the same scale.
