Does anything bring out strong emotion in you, be it books, music, film, art?
I mean strong. Not a sense of "awesome" from watching 300; I mean something that goes right through you and takes your breath.
Any of you, and what?

One passage of a novel described slicing flesh off a man's forarm so that "a piece the size of a fish hit the floor."
I began physically squirming at the mere thought.
Never back down and 300 get my heart pumping, adrenaline rush for sure.
LOTR makes me feel very inspired to not just sit on the couch, and also makes me cry a little in some parts because of parallels I see.
I cry during most movies, [good movies anyway]and I don't necessarily mean romantic. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, to name one of my favorites. I don't know, it just really "affected me." Pretty deep.
What a great thread.
I would have to say that Radiohead-In Rainbows just made my cry with every single emotion being felt, but melted into one seamless bond.
I'm a complete sucker for a lot of movies too, like Lost In Translation completely destroyed me and my thoughts on romance.
My friend is a really great artist too, and It really hits an emotional nerve in me. I am honored to to be friends with someone who can express such beauty in a minimalist way.
"Minimalism" would definitely fit well with everything I've said.
This is a recent behavior for me to start crying over these kinds of movies, or music.
I'd say what gets me the most is dramatic interaction between people who just have unconditional love toward each other. Not so much as your random, cheesy-love-novel type of material, but more along the lines of parents and children who are caught up in some life-threatening ordeal, or brothers or sisters that would do anything for each other, and are somehow put to the test. Things like that. I can't really think of a good example at the moment, but oh well.
Also, I love details. Mostly the visual kind. Things that really make you feel that the content was heavily and meticulously tolled over so that it was done perfectly. I think a perfect example of this would be the action scenes in Spider-Man (especially 2). The train scene was absolutely awe-inspiring. Everything from the way Spidey moved, to how Ock's arms each worked individually - sometimes making the scene so chaotic that it was hard to follow exactly what all was happening at once, to how they broke to the shot of the two of them fighting, vertically, on the side of the train. They really pulled out all the stops to make those into perfect translations to film, and it's the type of thing that just makes me stare at the screen, slack-jawed.
But, aside from that, I just love any good thrill ride. Something that puts me on the edge of my seat and threatens to kick me in the throat at any moment.
Occasionally books and film, but most often music.
"Do You Realize??" by The Flaming Lips still stops me in my tracks to this day. Sobering lyrics paired with music that can best be described as a joygasm.
Spoiler for Lyrics:
Untitled #4 [Njósnavélin/The Nothing Song] By: Sigur Rós Cry everytime I hear it. Perfectly describes this event in my life, with emotion. Listening to this is such an experience.
It changes, I suppose.
Right now; Tom Waits- 'Dirt in the Ground Really' pulls me underneath.\\
Obviously I have a strong feeling when watching "Requiem for a Dream" as well.
Also songswise;"Öngyilkos vasárnap" by Venetian Snares.
I also have a strong reaction to any art by Cy Twombly I've seen.
yeah, Sigur Ros and Flaming Lips were the other two bands I were going to mention. "Joygasm" explains The Flaming Lips perfectly. I just got Christmas On Mars today, The sound track to it is already futuristic as hell, so I expect the movie to be great.
Requiem For A Dream also has a huge emotional impact on me too, which is the reason I always go back to watching it. I guess you could say I am an addict to anything that makes me feel.
The only kind of movies I don't like that give me feelings are feelings of pain. Like, I saw an episode of Aqua Teen Hunger Force where the aliens shove a broom stick up this guy's butt and it starts pushing the top of his head...that was painful to watch. (and it stays there for 2 episodes too...anyways sorry I mentioned it)
Whoever mentioned "the actions scene from Spiderman 2" is on a completely different page.
Lol. No argument there. :chuckle:
(and proudly so, by the way!)
Edit:
"A Time To Kill" is coming on in a few minutes. I'd definitely put that way up on my "movies that give me an emotional reaction" list. Another one of my favorites.
Edit x2:
Jesus. It's been so long since I've seen this.
I just saw "Christmas On Mars", excellent movie and definitely a good addition to this list
Also, don't forget "Let The Right One In"
Gotta throw this post in here, just because it's a perfect example of what I meant in my previous one.
Let The Right One In. Just saw it today. I can't describe it with words. One of the best films I've seen, very powerful and moving.
I was quite close to tears when I first saw The Last Samurai in the cinema. And when I saw it on DVD after. That's not the only movie either, there are have been a few. It happens with TV shows as well, even soaps. If something is done just right I can find an emotional connection to it quite easily.
It's funny though that music issuch a dominant force in my life, but I've never been brought to tears by it. I've been awed, but the only times I've come close to tears, off the top of my head, is listening to Dream Theater (Hell's Kitchen and Disappear). What I would love is to find a song that scares the crap out of me, but I'm unable to find anything that I find even remotely creepy. I'm not sure it's possible for music to have that kind of effect.
^ Great song. Grind and Doom are my favorite genres.
Mostly everything gets to me; music, books, film. Sadness and anger usually account for the whole of my experiences unless I can keep the escape into fantasy flowing well enough. Some films reflect this truth so well that it is overwhelming. Books, especially those philosophy related, do the same. Sometimes it sucks to be such a passionate person.
Books like Walden and Into the Wild hit close to home and films similar; love for the simple things, hatred for the current state of society and lack of reasoning, etc. The more fantasy oriented stuff I like is usually medieval related; (LotR, King Arthur) or extreme romance. In music, most forms of metal affect me greatly. I keep it going almost 24/7 unless I am out in the woods.
Yeah, movies like Braveheart make my whoel body vibrate with some powerful desire to do something honorable and intense with my life. Like, something for the greater good.
While movies like Into the Wild, speak to me deeply and make me feel like dropping everything I've got here, and leaving someplace else to start it all over.
Oh...and Pulp Fiction just makes me want to be a mother fucking gangster! Mouhahahaha
lion king, if i watch the first one on its own, im fine, if i watch the second one on its own im fine. but if i watch them both, 1 then straight away the second one, it gets to me. i start to imagine if simba were me. it pains me to say it, since im a guy, but it is a very upsetting film.
I cried during A Quantum Solace because how incredibly shit it was.
Mary - Yann Tiersen. Beautiful. Emotion and music.
