Fascinating that the beat is everywhere, and so popular, but i had never heard of the original song before...
great find, bookmarked.
Great video
goes to show how prevalent and important audio sampling really is
although I think James Brown's Funky Drummer has been sampled a lot more than the Amen break
I wrote about this some time ago

If you're really interested, get a copy of a documentary called "The Freshest Kids"
it focuses primarily on bboying, but has a really nice overview of the whole hip hop mindset, including sampling
One quibble with the video...
whether intentional or not, they seem to imply that sampling is a modern technique
he mentions the rise of modern electronic music a few times
Audio sampling, and in particular music remixing goes back a long way, even pre-dating the Amen break that they used as an example
From the mid 60's onwards, Dub music has used sampling extensively
Look up the likes of Lee "Scratch" Perry, King Tubby and the Mad Professor
Sampling is older than most of the popular sampled tracks
I don't think he's saying it's a new technique, just that its become hugely more popular since...the 80's? And into the 90's. Which it has, you can't deny that. It may have started out somewhere way back when, but has massively grown in the last 3 decades. For sure.
Thank you for sharing.

Man, The Beastie Boys completely ripped off a whole entire song. People Of Herb also completely ripped off another few songs he played there.
He was wrong about a lot of things though, Like a lot of those songs who used that famous beat never even used the same same recording or timing.
Also, he doesn't mention that looping does lack artistic credit in that what ever samples they took had a very distinctive playing style which is more complex than many may think.
Very interesting movie other than that though.
