Unreal Tournament music has always been good stuff. A nice mix of orchestral, rock and techno.
Yeah, and its really good at pumping the game play up.
example: whenver you killsomone, a breakdown happens in the techno music (and on time), but musically I find it uninspirational, but the ultra futuristic settings and lighting seem to make up for that. I don't care for the ultra fast gameplay though.
You're thinking of UT3. Unreal Tournament 2004 has much more focus on the music.
mine would have to be the final fantasy prelude.
since I'm a real big fan of Amon Tobin, I like the soundtrack of Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory the most, especially Kokubo Sosho. But it's not really epic, it's electronical music.

The most EPIC opening theme is the theme from TES4: Oblivion!

also another epic theme is the boss battle theme from ff7
here is a studio version.
Metal Gear music is amazing every time.
I have a particular fondness for Starcraft themes

Metal Gear Solid music is as far as epic game music goes.
Here is an orchestra performing 2 MGS themes put together.
Though I strongly suggest looking up the actual, actual music.
Anything from the Metal Gear Solid series, and the soundtrack only gets better with each installment....especially "Father & Son" theme from MGS4.
Donkey Kong Country 2, Bramble Blast.
That game was awesome in every aspect. Of course, I am somewhat old school.
And Final Fantasy has obviously been spoken for.
I don't know about you guys, but I loved the music that was playing during the Ant Lion fight in Half-Life 2: Episode 2...
I believe it was called Vortal Combat.
That is pretty good too Slayer, but not particularly epic. I'd rather call it adrenaline pumping music.
GTA IV utilized one of my most favorite instrumentals for its theme:
"Pruit Igoe" by Phillip Glass
~
Drastic need of more Castlevania.
I forgot to mention Shadow of the Colossus
Forget Oblivion, this is even better:
this just in, and I can't believe nobody mentioned it yet
Punch Out - Fight Theme

and last (for now), but not least
Street Fighter II - Clamato Fever (specifically the newer version for HD Remix)

Mario :D Everyone knows the music to every freaken level.
Liberi Fatali
and The Landing
Silent Hill
Kill God:
Theme of Laura (Reprise)
HALO, DUH. The musical soundtrack in the halo games are beautiful, as is the opening music on 1 and 2.
