      Dawn of War II

The Beta for DOW 2 has started. I registered my Soulstorm CD key (which may or may not lead to my enslavement) and am downloading the Beta right now. I'll report back when I've experienced the game itself. I really hope my computer has the power to run it.

I'm excited about this game since they finally added the Tyranids, who were the only army not represented in the first game.

Has anybody played it yet? The full game gets released on the 27th.

      Hmm, nobody? Alright then...

Well I played it. I am unimpressed.

They changed the formula up A LOT. You can no longer reinforce your squads whenever, you have to go back to your HQ to do that, requisition is extremely tight (I may have missed something there, but there wasn't a tutorial so I can't be sure), you can no longer build structures along the battlefield. In fact, the only structures you build are generator upgrades

The gameplay just doesn't seem as fun IMO. Like I said, requisition was extremely tight so you can't just build an army as soon as your last one gets destroyed like in the first game. You can't build structures anymore... which I happen to love building a base.

There were some moments when I was playing online that did put me on my toes, but this game is not a DOW sequel, and this game is not the game I fell in love with :'( . The only improvements I'd note are superficial aspects like graphics and sound. They did add mic chatting capabilities

I suppose I can see why people would like it. Nonetheless, I would have enjoyed a "sequel" far more that did not deviate so much from the original formula.

Well, I've still got Starcraft II to look forward to.

You might get a bigger response when the public beta comes out. Still waiting since I didn't get soulstorm.

However, I'm waiting eagerly for the beta and from everything I've read/seen, I'm pretty sure I'll love it.

One question though, does MP allow 1v1? I heard somewhere that it was atleast 2v2, but couldnt find any substantial sources. In any case, I plan on plowing through the campaign with one of my friends; aughta be fun.

It allows 1v1. I remember it quite vividly because the gameplay against my foe was ridiculously homosexual.

      [Update]

Well, me and my friend have been playing the beta for a few days and....
I really can't figure out if I like it or not. It's strange

It's not that it's a bad game but It feels like it goes against all my usual playstyles. I loved slowly moving up front lines with turrets and entrenched positions as Imperial guard in DOW 1 and making epic bases in all other rts' but this game REQUIRES offensive tactics and quick micro-management. Incidentally my friend was always extremely offensive and has beat me in pretty much every round of dow for over a year so it's not exactly new to DOW2 .

Anyway, I thought I would take to it and adapt, but I'll have to see if I can really play a game in based on that gameplay style...

I just can't enjoy a game with that play style. Whenever I would fight anyone, they'd always pull their forces back and retreat for a second, cause my melee Tyranids to run at them, and fire at me once again when I un-targeted their unit and pulled back. It's more of a game about who clicks faster than about ACTUAL realistic battlefield tactics. I much more enjoy games like the polar opposite of DOW2, Supreme commander.

The way DOW2 works can best be described to me as frustrating, unsatisfying, and gay....really, really gay.
